Id think its going to be pretty hard for you to meet someone in China, if thats your thing. Of course, considering the size and diversity of China the old adage of someone for everyone is likely to ring true, but the odds of meeting taller girls really are slim. Ive only ever worked in the south, and at 178 cm, I feel quite tall compared to most people here.
If you have felt uncomfortable about your height when dating before, expect that to be worse in China IMHO. choudoufu did post to say the average female height is around 150 ... even at a slightly higher average of 155 - 160 you are still looking at girls much much shorter (and often of far slighter build) than girls in the West.
I commented earlier in this thread about Yangshuo, Nr Guilin, a place you would love for the cycling and leisure activities, but the dating might be tough. There is a tall teacher who works with my employer and I think he's had quite a hard time finding someone to date and has told me he feels awkward about his height in China. I dont think he is as tall as you though. |

Would you guys mind not talking about women, tall, short or otherwise as if they were objects?
Be funny sure, but be respectful.
will do. but can we expect the schools and the women (both short and tall),
and the average zhou on the street NOT to treat random foreigners as if
they were objects?
You guys are so funny, this the first time you've been objectified and you all hate it so much, well now consider the other point of view I'm trying to make. |
Tall Chinese policewomen? Maybe I should develop a fetish for that.
Tall girls working in hotels? That's actually a good tip. Every time I pass by a "face" hotel I should probably go in just to check on their hiring policies.
You have my greatest empathy on the tall issue, and I have been on dates where there's a significant height difference. However while you have my understanding for being tall you don't have it for comments like this.
The OP was about good cities to live in perhaps you should return to the subject. |

Mambawamba, the fact that you assume that any discussion of physical characteristics indicates objectification implies that you consider most men as shallow pigs who only care about sex and looks, otherwise you would not attribute malice to such discussions where no malice is evident. Where I come from, this is itself called sexism.
Is meeting women in hotels immoral? Can you fathom that I would prefer not to date police officers in a non-democratic country, whether male or female, tall or short, Chinese or Belorussian?
Here's what happened in this thread:
"Hey guys, I'm moving to a country of 1.3 billion people, a country where people are on average 5 inches shorter than the people where I come from. And even in the country where I'm from, my height is in the 99.9th percentile, thus I'm interested to know if people are really taller in one area or another as I've heard?"
"You should check out the hotels, they hire tall girls there sometimes."
"Hotels? That's interesting, I'll have to see if it's really true."
"HEY GUYS, STOP OBJECTIFYING PEOPLE."
Well all right then. Keep fighting the good fight. You've really found a proper target, and you're totally not overreacting, at all.
In response to what some others have said, meeting women in China is not my primary goal. I certainly don't have a particular thing for Asian girls. But I'm definitely going to want to date there, just like I'd want to date anywhere else. |

who's objecting? it's kinda cool! where else can overweight, balding,
pasty middle-age farts get treated like rock stars!
jinkies! even big-bellied german guys in speedos get axed to be in
young girlies beach photos! (haha...now you're visualizing....ewwwww!)
as for me, being a rather poorly-compensated engrish teacher, i prefer
the short 'uns. so many advantages!
*you can buy 'em kiddie meals at macdonalds!
*children's plane and train tickets are half-price!
*kids stay for free at the holiday inn!
*clothing from the junior department at jc-penney's is cheaper! |

My understanding is that Chinese police officers are not allowed to marry foreigners.
IIRC, there are several groups employed by the Chinese government that are not allowed to marry foreigners.
Also, many of those tall beautiful women that work at hotels are there to provide "other services". |

Sure, they can marry "foreigners" as long as said foreigner is willing to give up that foreign passport and naturalize. To be in a position that has those requirements, the string pulling to make naturalization happen is quite doable. |

Marry the short chick. The inconvenience of having to get crap off the top shelf of the fridge or get the bolognaise sauce out of the closet for them is easily outweighed by barely being able to hear them telling you the intimate details of their dreams the night before or how some crap hurt their feelings three years ago.
I love my wife like crazy, but at times it's a definite blessing that with her at 4'11" and me at 6'2" that she needs to practically make a phone call to talk to or nag me about the dog shit on the floor, "Say aren't you drinking too much?"...."Have you found a part time job yet?"......."Can't hear you, dear....send me an email!!" Quickly block sender. |

I would say, don't date a cop anytime, anywhere or for any reason. Cops in China are much nicer on the norm than their western counterparts. Still, a cop is a cop and you can never trust em'. |

It's burning my eyes!!!!!!
@SledgeCleaver - Forgot you weren't in country, bearing that in mind, your responses make much more sense and I'm going to cut you some slack. Seriously good luck with moving to China and being an old romantic good luck with your dating quest too. |

I prefer medium sized ones myself
Places like Xiamen and Qingdao
The big ones are too much hard work
I'm thinking Shanghai and Beijing
And the little ones are too boring
Places like Yangshuo |

Wow, we managed to have a tiff without it descending into a flame war. Sticky this thread as a first in internet history.
Thanks for the good wishes, Mambawamba, I promise I'll be gentle with our lovely y-axis-challenged Confucian cousins (: |

Hence, the comment about needing to develop a fetish.

Ha, good one. But if you have to block her every time, you must unblock her a few hours later on the off-chance she wants to send something apologetic or lovey-dovey? |
