Keep in mind that if you plan to move up the TEFL ladder and/or out to other parts of the world, having Berlitz experience on your CV can be the kiss of death---potential employers won't be impressed. In fact, the few people I know who've taught for Berlitz (in other countries), did so as a second legal job but kept it off their CV. |
Could you elaborate on this? A someone who sits on a hiring committee most years I would not discriminate based on this. When you start a TEFL career, you need to start somewhere, so why would you not take a candidate who was at Berlitz? If I saw a CV and the person had moved from Berlitz to an ALT position, then solo teaching at a JHS or HS and then did a brick and mortar MA in the field, moving into part-time uni and were looking for some part-time classes, I wouldn't really care if they had started off as a JET, NOVA, GABA or Berlitz, why would it matter? |

I've heard that they have microphones in the rooms and listen in on your lessons. I didn't know about the cameras though. What's that for - to make sure some over-excited newbie teacher doesn't put his hand up a high school girl's skirt? |
