We have had so many here complaining about their inability to send their money out... paid in cash... having to carry out a large amount.

Trying to find a way to send it out on their own so that they are not keeping so much cash in their flat.

This has been an on-going problem for the last few years.

Yes, since it's company housing, regular procedure to inspect employee lodging without notification, and anyone given a key has access.

Not to mention international law prohibiting the transport of more than 10,000 USD on airplanes.

One solution, that is only a partial solution, is to buy a safe from someplace like Jarir, and keep your cash in it. (It still feels like spending money to make money to me.)

Actually, you can carry more than 10,000 USD of money or alternatives to money(such as bearer bonds, gold, etc...), but it must be declared or it can be seized. I believe each country is able to declare at which level it must be declared(assuming they set it under 10,000 USD) when entering/leaving.

If you declare it, do you have to pay a tax on it every country you pass through?

Only if you actually ENTER the country you're passing through. If you're just waiting in the TRANSIT LOUNGE for your connecting flight out, you haven't legally entered the country and nothing happens. Once you enter the country, however, even if it's just for a few hours, you have to do it all over again...and this time, as per the laws of the country you've just entered.

(You also have to take all your luggage, of course, upon entering a new country....you can't just leave it all "in a corner" "because you're returning in just a few hours" to catch your connection out.) That's not how it works. Hint: don't try to play the tourist while connecting. The countless passengers who've missed a connecting flight because they went on a little excursion are too numerous to mention.

Yeah. That almost happened to me. I had a connecting flight in Cairo and took a taxi to snap the pyramids. I almost got suckered in a tour. They're rather persuasive.

If I hadn't of refused and ran away, I would have missed my flight and a shift at work.
