Astrill hasn't been working for me for almost 2 weeks now on OpenVPN. Stealth works occasionally (following snarf's advice) but is in and out.
I thought it was only suposed to be down until the beginning of this week, after the meetings in Beijing?
It's annoying... |

Get a Chinese VPN. One called "ChaoJi", if you have a Chinese person in your life they will be able to install the VPN via QQ and you can enjoy all the pornhub/cat videos you would like. I have never had it go down ever since I got it and hook up the other westerners who need it all the time.
Edit: forgot to mention the price is astronomically cheaper than astril. I believe it costs 200 yuan a year to purchase it. So what is that.. like 16 yuan a month? 3 bucks a month is well worth it and the speed is MUCH better than astrill/exprezzzzz VPN. |

Good to know! Thanks!
Astrill is down for the count for me today! As of about noon. Can't even get into the splash menu.
We'll see what the night brings. Final day of meetings = ultimate crackdown? |

No, you need to change your password, which you can do through the program itself.
They also sent out a pleading message earlier today asking customers not to talk about their operations on social media/forums, as that makes it easier to compromise them. I really think mods should delete this thread and we don't mention it again on here. |

Kind of naive for Astrill workers to 'plead' (at least it wasn't insulting like the New Year message) with users not to talk about Astrill. As if the CCP gets all its information from internet forums. Surely, oh surely with the resources the CCP has access to, it buys at least one subscription of Astrill a year? |

Might be a good idea.
As for changing my password, I heard rumblings of that, but...I can't even log in. (v3.1) so...I can't do it, and I can't get on the site itself. Quite a catch-22. |

What a joke of a company. I have been with witopia for 8 years and never faced issues of more than a day or two. They work it out and send you an ip that will work. Asking people not to talk about it? Did it go like this, "We are a vpn company that cannot offer connections to our customers. Please don't tell others, they might not give us money for nothing." Could be they are having issues with server providers.
My VPN acted up a bit when trying US servers, but I can get one at times. I have been going through Tokyo and that seems to always work. Set it up manually with a real IP and it will most likely work.
Witopia went so far as to alert people their Detroit servers were going off line days in advance. I never used them, but way to give a heads up to those who did. You could go with the recommendation of chaoji (where do the servers run through is my question) or make a switch to a better international vpn provider.
Never used astrill, heard a lot about how great it is, and how bad it is, never thought I needed to know. |
