The staring thing I have gotten used to, but the laughing.I do not remember them doing that years ago. I really don't.I think it is silly , too, with the WTO and the Olympics coming up. Maybe some new propaganda to boost morale among the citizens.Who knows?I have been in some of the wildest places in China.People did not laugh like they do now.They stared, of course.I had a ball in these areas.In Xinshuanbanna I cycled for a week or so,people were inviting into their stores inviting me to have tea.It was a very positive experience.
