One other bit is that to my knowledge without the letter of release from your employer, to change jobs you would have to exit China in order to get another work visa, which would entail all the usual medical stuff plus now the authentications. And if you happen to get the letter of release you would probably have to go back to wherever in order to get the authentications done. It's still going to be a big hassle to change jobs in China these days, but the latter method would be a little easier. Does anyone have a less bleak version of the current work visa situation in China?

i don't think getting authenticated docs is as difficult as some seem to be making it out to be. maybe this comes from working in korea, or maybe because i go home once per year? you don't have to go home to authenticate documents, there are services that do it for you, friends and family are another possibility too.

i definitely wouldn't stay at a job if i wasn't happy with it, or if there was something better on offer, because of this rule change. i changed jobs, knowing this rule change and what was newly required. no regrets.
