Look at this crappy offer from Qingdao university. Guess I would fall into the 4500 category.
Monthly salary from RMB 4,500 to 10,000 (4,500 for bachelor’s with over two years’ teaching experience; 5,000 for master’s; 5,500 for doctor’s; 7,500 maximum for associate professor; 10,000 maximum for full professor)
* Round-trip international flight allowance every year (8,000 for Europe; 10,000 for USA)
* Monthly apartment renting allowance from 1,500 to 2,500
* Yearly heating allowance from 2,100 to 3,700
* Medical insurance of 1,680 per year.
* Free transport from the airport
* Luggage delivery reimbursement of 1,000. |
This is pretty standard university stuff. |
That salary of 4500 for a BA qualified teacher is in no way "standard university stuff" today. Maybe back in 2004 but not in 2018. This offer is not only crappy, it's ++ crappy. |
There's a RANGE of over 5K in the salary indication. Why do you lowball the OP and suggest she can only sneak in at the low end of the range?
One thing I do notice is that airfare, heating are also allowances. Back in the day they were 'actuals'. |
I never suggested she aim for the bottom, I merely pointed out that 4500 for a BA qualified individual is not standard stuff today as you seem to believe. There are many other jobs out there that offer a far better salary straight up without a BA applicant having to worry about negotiating their way up from 4500. The poster already knows enough to steer clear of this offer as she well should. |

| Are these figures being quoted not housing allowances? 😄 |

Chinese never update their web records.
That 4500 will happily remain there for years and they will recruit teachers of OP level for 7K and over.
I'm sure there will be an outrage from you BZ if I mention 'package'.
Everyone will put a different monetary value on the intangibles like oodles of non-teaching time.
I've already mentioned the increasingly prevalent practise of capping things like power use. It was starting to happen when I began my last contract in 2010.
A word to OP. Don't litigate your job conditions through Dave's. Do that with employer or agent and ALWAYS have a backup . |

| Somehow a university that is unable to update their job offer is good? 10k for a full professor and they think that is fine to stay that way? Seriously, it looks demeaning to me. They might pay more and have a better package as NS said, but why not state that they have it. It seems odd to go for a job in the hopes that what they have said is not even half of what is expected from them. They offer 1680 per year for insurance, is that just saying that is what they will pay for any medical or are they actually (following the law) getting you insurance? I would just move on. |

We're talking China here.
Expectations based on Western norms are futile. And again don't litigate on job conditions via Dave's.
Apply, get offers and if you need input on something ask.
This is the hiring season for the fall semester. |
