My threads usally seem to take this turn eventually...where else can they go? (Scotty and the whole team simply do not exist, Guy) If I'm wrong, please prove me thus. |

Shall we get existential?
How can they not exist? The act of your denying their existence simply proves their existence.
Does existence mean physical reality? Well, there are some DVDs that have these charatcers there, acting, yes, so they are real no?
Paulie, you're gonna have to bring more than just the Bible to sit across table from me. |

The characters themselves may exist - except for the ones who have since died - but certainly you realize that it was purley science fiction.
Now, eyewitness accounts of Scriptural events can only cause us to a deeper quest for their certainty - don't you agree? |

Can you tell me what the difference is between the written word of the Bible and the written script of a Star Trek episode (to continue with the same example)?
Both are true in and of themselves, in the sense that they exist.
What is to stop me from saying that the Bible is also science fiction? Or rather, theological fiction? What is the criteria for determining fact from fiction? Is it the one, solitary observer? It is the collective observations of all, or of some of us? Is there room for anyone to simply say the Bible does not exist?
I will stay online and await your response because this is sport to me.
Don't get me wrong...I am not bashing religion or God or the Bible or Start Trek. |

You know Guy, a long time ago when I was a younger (and wiser?) Christian, I would use this exact quote to convince the agnostic of his foolishness. Thanks for refreshing my memory... |

That was Platonic.
It does not go well well with scripture I imagine. |

Well, let's leave it at that then.
You and I are running the same circles others have run for eons. No point in re-running history here. |

I'd like to extrapolate a further if I may...I came across this quote while attending a wonderful church retreat in a place that I can only describe as a paradise here in San Salvador (interesting name, isn't it?) Anyway, I opened the Bible and as I read further I realized that this is so often the problem we have with believing in and simply believing God. God (by His Holy Spirit) says to us here: "NOR DID IT EVER ENTER INTO MY MIND"
The MIND OF GOD does not entertain evil...what a revelation!
Did the God of Israel ever expect more than simply our love and trust? ^[Maybe I'm still 'high' from this weekend...]
Yea, buddy...what were you smoking anyway?!!!! |

Would you object to a workshop or retreat that had as a major theme the denial of God, or the denial of the Bible as truth? If so, what would prevent you from hearing this Word?
Just a question. |

Guy, I have seen a website titled something like: Evil scriptures from the Bible.
I'd guess in 20 or more years since I chose to believe God that I've heard and felt it all. But, in answer to your question: No, I probably wouldnt attend any more than I'd attend a cross-burning, skinhead rally or a lynching in Mexico for that matter.
I kinda like this feeling...

Wonderful imagery you create. Thank you for the revealing response.
Myself, I too would choose a path of belief if my options were so limited. the path I ultimately chose, and choose to renew each new day is that of no limits, no boundaries. Only wonderous awe at constant discovery. It probably feels the same as choosing a scriptural path and discovering something there at the end.
Lynchings in Mexico, cross-burnings, skinhead rallies, witch burnings, the Crusades...all are wonderfully interesting events that reveal so much about human nature. I would attend them all just to observe and learn if I could. Not participate...just to learn |

Well, there are limits now aren't there, Guy? I mean we can't just go about 'creating' our own happiness - it's rather obvious that that doesn't work very well. The terrible events throughout history attest to me that
mankind can be very depraved - but as well, wonderfully amazing and uplifting. I like to think that if there is ANY good at all, it can be attributed to mankind's following a 'higher' wisdom. For the sake of maintaining an equilibrium, I'll choose to call that wisdom God...we can always move on from there...
