So my unsurpassed wit and 'GSOH' isn't enough for a strraight answer then?

HKU has lost my degrees transcripts!! They say that maybe my true copies got lost in the post!! They asked me to mail another set of copies forward again - so that HKU can lose them too! So now I have to pay HKU a visit with my originals before Saturday otherwise forfeit their offer of a place on the PGDE.

That's called 'karma', baby ...

Best not to mock the 'aesthetically challenged' in future.

Karma means:-

1. Hinduism & Buddhism. The total effect of a person's actions and conduct during the successive phases of the person's existence, regarded as determining the person's destiny.
2. Fate; destiny.
3. Informal. A distinctive aura, atmosphere, or feeling: There's bad karma around the house today.

Nothing in the above three definitions says anything about HKU losing my transcripts! If I successfully complete HKU's PGDE I'm destined to be a qualified teacher - whether or not I'll be able to find a job is another question, afterall who knows, by that time the EMB may have changed the NET entrance qualification requirements!!!!

I haven't said anything yet about the intellectually challenged!

As for the 'aesthetically challenged', perhaps you, yourself in the flesh, are a fine handsome male, I don't know, I simply invited you to change your avatar in order for me to give up info. on the HKU English language education admission test for the PGDE. It would have been a fair trade, you would have had to do some work on your computer and I would have had to do some typing on mine. I made your request conditional because I didn't want to type. If you feel wounded and still in ignorance as to the content of the HKU PGDE English language education examination then give Anita Tam a call on 2859-2515. Incidentially, HKU has extended its deadline for entrance to the PGDE. Now my karma has got to be positive!!

Did you need to affix a photo of yourself to the application?

Actually, Mark-O, you do seem to have chosen a succesion of avatars with images that would not fit the popular version of what handsome or beautiful would. I guess it would not be too outlandish to ask why you have done that.

No photo required as I submitted an online application, but apparently HKU has the right at any time to request to see one's original certificates and transcripts, so I had to call to the campus in person and my face was seen at that point! I'm glad to say that I wasn't turned away for lacking beauty perfections!!

I was given my letter of offer of a place, and have to pay nearly HK$11,000 within a week as part of the fees to secure my place.

Quite. There is no profound reason; I just have an unconventional perception of beauty, I suppose.

Changing my avatar would be akin to admitting that plastic surgery is a good thing for those whom wish to change themselves to seek the approval of others.

Besides, when it precipitates to tit-for-tat, viz, "I'll do something for you only if you do something for me", then the world has become a sad place to live in. My avatar stands proud...

I wonder how the person whose picture you used would feel about it.

You could say that about anyone who has an avatar depicting a person on this site - why should mine be an exception?

IMHO, it's not very kind, but to each his own...

It only seems unkind to you because you don't feel comfortable with the way the person looks; that's your hang-up, not mine. Why should I choose pictures of people whom others find aesthetically appealing? As you say, "to each his own".

Mark,

You call it "tit-for-tat", others might call it "give-and-take".

You are not an angel living on your own cloud, or some castaway living on a desert island, one does have to interact with others. Being flexible makes that easier to live in harmony. A reed that bends in the wind has a better chance of staying rooted than a rigid tree that gets up-rooted by a typhoon!! lol. As the song goes, keep young and beautiful if you want to be loved" - yes, you mentioned your mother loves you!

Perhaps your choice of avatar reflects the type of character you are?

Andy, how do you think the person whose picture it is would think about it? And why do you think so?

And why do you think it is unkind? If Mark-O had posted a picture of someone a fashion magazine would consider handsome, would you then consider him kind?

A really interesting discussion could be had here.
