Boland School in Jiangsu, China.
That was in 2002, and they've moved to another location now closer to Shanghai.
Had a great time there anyway, learned a lot. |

| I began my professional life as a Spanish teacher (with a B.S.ed. in Secondary Education) and segued into teaching English when I realized what I really wanted to do with my life was to live and work abroad. I found that many of the things I learned in my pedagogy courses were easily adapted to TEFL. (I am just temporarily in the U.S. until I can arrange my triumphant return to Mexico!) |

Oxford House College, Barcelona Branch. (Trinity accredited)
Was a good course at the time, also not too expensive and had a LONG teaching component. Was quite easy to get a job in Barcelona with only this qualification. (But that was 2000)
I've heard the course has got a lot bigger and more popular since then, which may have affected the quality, so now I really don't know.

PS Mr Round the Bloc- Where are you from? When were you at UNI? And where did you drink? We may have met... |

I'm working on my TESOL certification at UCLA in Los Angeles. It's a graduate-level, 36-credit program that you can finish in about a year (it's taken me 2), or faster if you take the accelerated summer session. The cost will be about $6-$7,000 when it's all done. It includes a supervised "practicum" component.
I've also gotten my Adult Ed. certification from the state of CA, which theroretically (if there were jobs) would qualify me to teach ESL for LAUSD. I am also observing adult ESL classes in my spare time (I have a full-time "real" job).
Getting credentialled and employed in education here is an expensive proposition. The state of CA keeps passing new regulations for teachers requiring them to pay for more classes to asure "quality." However, I also admit than spending 10 years working toward an MA in art history, although it gave me immense personal satisfaction, has done nothing for me professionally.
I'll bet you didn't really want to know this much about me. Anyway, once I have some practical teaching experience & my TESOL, I plan to go to Japan to teach English. There are more jobs there.
