Found an interesting rebuttal over at forumosa. Could it be that things aren't always as they seem?

I wonder why he posted that on a website that is run by Taiwanese business people?
Very ignorant and not much backbone if you asked me. |
Actually, I think he posted there and will post here when he gets an account activated by Dave Sperling.
I don't think you should really criticize David for his remarks. He is planning to leave the school shortly for another job and his remarks are genuine. As with the other teachers and staff at the school, I felt that he was a nice guy. People who have had a positive experience with the school, and the boss, have a right to post their feelings just as much as those who have a negative impression of the school.
He isn't calling us all liars, he's just posting to let people know that not everyone who has worked there ends up hating the school or the boss.
I think that your attack on David is out of line. And while I wouldn't doubt that the curriculum is designed to give answers to questions frequently showing up on tests, I don't see any proof to that effect.
Civility should be answered with civility. |
Good post P. However, Aristotle does not have the nuts to admit he is wrong. He just keeps coming in here telling us all the sky is falling and if we don't register for his union of 1, we will surely all be deported.
It's very nice to see you can have 2 versions of the same story and accept each others side without resorting to backstabbing bullshit. Good luck on your quest for a new job.
BTW, we may have some hours for you in Taoyuan. Check out the link in my signature. Its all chinese, but I believe you can use the language, right? |

Fair enough.
My apologies to David Allen. The fact that he posted under his real name does take a bit more backbone than most here have shown including myself.
Another fact that needs to be taken into account is that the school did pay you for all the hours you worked. Good paying teaching jobs like the one mentioned above are becoming rare on Taiwan and I would hate to be accused of crying "sour grapes".
Here on Taiwan foreign teachers are usually happy if they get paid at all.
How the Ministry of Education extorts money from students is something the people on Taiwan need to deal with when they are ready and able. Neither of which they are right now.
Sadly the fact that schools like EZ English are allowed to operate and the way the MOE prescribes English language learning in schools is one of the reasons there is such a demand for foreign teachers on Taiwan.
Good luck.
