Interesting Uncle...well, I accurately reported what an MLI person told me just this morning. So, there are people there with a different impression. Like everything in this saga... watch this space.
One thing that people need to keep in mind is that HCT can only do what the Ministry allows - and in this situation we have two warring ministries.

That's right people. MLI actually got the raise today...albeit a short-lived one (4 months). The new contracts offered by HCT-CERT are now significantly lower than their present salaries. I've been told by friends over at HCT that they have been told that they won't be getting the raise. How about the other uni's, instituions (UGRU, Zayed U etc.)?

I was speaking with someone from ZU over a couple of "wobbly pops" last night and they mentioned they got the raise, but only on their base salary. Unlike HCT he was saying their salary is broken up. I have no idea how that compares.
While feeling a little sting, it is only good when other branches get a raise because it will apply pressure in the long run.
Warring ministries I'm not so sure. I think HCT was told they could give the raise but it wasn't coming out of the federal pot, it was coming out of the HCT budget.
New VC and new budgets. I guess we will hang in until September and see what pans out. |

A bunch of resignations might get their attention? Especially considering their recruitment problems this year...
I know that everyone who can is bailing out of MLI... even for significantly less money...

What about UAEU? Any news on the pay increases? I heard yesterday (Tuesday) that no salaries had been deposited with the bank yet ..... so nobody knew whether or not they'd got anything extra. |

This whole pay rise thing sounds like a real mess.
In sum, it looks like the military (not just MLI) got it - MLI will lose it when HCT takes over as HCT don't have a rise yet - wonder what will happen there if HCT gets a rise sometime? ZU got it in some form. Spicegirl said a while back that UAEU were getting it and I heard there had been some communique to say they would. A couple of schools (private) in Dubai got it.
So, what's going on? If the government announces a rise, how can institutions which are government NOT give it? Aren't there any comebacks? Naive question, I know, but... In the UAE, doesn't all money for state institutions come from the state? In which case, if the government has declared a rise, then they should be doling out the dosh to cover it.
What a truly bizarre situation. |

No we didn't! At least, not anyone I know! Maybe some Emiratis, but I don't think even they did - our AA wasn't singing and dancing, though I must admit I didn't ask her if she'd had a pay-rise.
7 Days had a story about nationals getting the increase in June, expats in 3 months' time, but their source appeared to be from the Ruler's Palace in Dubai and I doubt he had any authority to speak for Federal institutions like ZU and HCT. |

So much mis-information.
I was talking to someone (I didn't know) from ZU and they said they got it on their base salary. Now you are saying they didn't. I hate BSers.
And I was talking to a friend in Fujairah (HCT) and the rumour there is that the HCT in Abu Dhabi got it. (which I can assure you is false)
I expect there to be a raise in some form or another in September. I didn't think it was realistic that they would introduce a raise before the new budget year before a new VC was even in his chair. |

Got a name? PM me and I'll BS him all right! Maybe non-teaching staff? Even then I doubt it - the Provost said at two meetings on each campus that we wouldn't get it at least till further clarification. |

Oooooh, tefllifer, you've been ever so optimistic in your interpretation of my post on 9th May. I didn't say UAEU was getting the pay rise, I said that people at UAEU didn't understand why they might not get it, and that many expected to get it. Not quite the same thing as actually being told that UAEU are getting it.
As of the May salary, it seems nobody has got any pay rise ..... yet (if ever). The word now is that it might be forthcoming in August, backdated; however, that is also based on hearsay, conjecture and gossip. The ever-shifting desert winds have blown another sand dune over the road.
Nothing, but nothing at all has been said officially by anyone in authority. That could be because UAEU isn't getting the pay rise, and they're too embarrassed to admit it, or it could be that they simply expect to get it, so they think there's no need to make any further comment about it. The other alternative is that no-one knows anything at all, which is by far the most likely scenario. |

If we get one person to write in from each place we can soon find out the truth and put things to rest...at least for the moment!
I'm HCT Sharjah and there was no pay rise at all in my May pay packet - fact!
I have also heard a million rumours but prefer not to listen since we know that in this part of the world you don't read fiction until it becomes fact!!!
Anyone else got news?

As I said last night, I got no pay-rise in my May salary from ZU. Turtlepi1"s mystery informant was either BS'ing or was placed in a different category - maybe national, maybe non-teaching, but I'm pretty sure neither of those got a rise either. |
