I was in the paper, on the news, freaking everything, I was also in milliyet looking like a right hooligan, which I am ofcourse !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

Dear Molly,
Like me you've lived in Turkey for a number of years. I presume, also like me, you've learned enough of the language to read the newspapers etc. However, it would seem that what you've heard on Turkey's reyting-hungry private television channels and read in the gutter press has influenced your opinions somewhat.
When two Leeds supporters were stabbed to death five years ago, I well remember Show television telling us the next day that "two English hooligans were killed". No, it didn't mention that one of them was a father of two and that the other one had been stabbed twenty-three times ... no that wouldn't be good for their ratings.
I'm afraid, five years ago, some of the Leeds fans did behave in a rather provocative way ... very unfortunate ...
However, the same can not be said of the thirty thousand Liverpool fans than descended upon Istanbul. You wrote they were "shouting and singing" ... is it a crime? You heard that that "they literally drank up all the beer in Taksim" ... I imagine the bar owners were over the moon ... I know the manager of "Fado Bar" was.
Ever since the Heysel Stadium tragedy, when a wall collapsed, killing 39 Italians (no, they weren't stabbed to death) the English fans, and in particular those of Liverpool, have had a bad press.
On Wednesday, Liverpool acquitted themselves amazingly. No, not just the team, but their supporters ...
... and maybe not you, but I know some Turks now feel that English fans are not the demons that their press makes them out to be. |

a friend of mine turned off the telly after the first half and started to read his book.and when he turned off the telly,saw the cup in the hands of Gerrard he thought he was going crazy. |

all right you guys. I was not on Bagdat Caddesi and I am not mad, crazy or angry. My comments were observations, not criticisms. you all know that the police would not have tolerated the same behaviour from Turks. That is an observation, only. They were having a great time-- it was a boys' party (and before someone jumps at me, I know there were women, but not many, degil mi?). That's fine with me and I was glad to be an observer. OK? Don't be so touchy, some of you. Go, all of you and thank you  |

Yes Molly, and I was just pointing out that the police DO tolerate the same behaviour from Turks, at least where football is concerned (we all know the police are more than heavy handed when it comes to protest, free speech etc.) Oh and sorry about the 'mad' thing, it wasn't a critisism just an observation. |

| in Turkey it is very popular to watch English Premiere League and we esp i love English way of football and everyone has a favorite team in England..i have a friend who still supports Sheffield Wednesday... i know some guys who love Fulham and i used to support west Ham after appearing in one of their magazines called Hammer ( see babaalex you are not the only magazine star) but after the Champions League Final i think 90% of the Turks will support Liverpool. |

baba I'm glad there'e more than one observer here
I talked to a lot of Turks who supported Milan, but they were mostly around here. Maybe it's different in other parts of the city. |

for this kinda events i support the non-British team to make my friends mad....and if there are two English teams i say that i support the one which is less liked by the English like Chealsea....  |
