Zero Hero:
Sorry for being so vacuous or in appearing to be so. In my defence I did say that I didn't know whether or not the findings that I relayed would apply to Chinese university students or not. I also stated that they might be applicable to North American high school students. Since the thread was about dress and not the wonders of teaching in Hong Kong, I thought they might be interesting. I dont't know if they are true or not. Like any findings in educational research they are open to interpretation.
I am very happy that you are teaching advanced, post graduate students in Hong Kong. It must be really cool to live and work in such a multi-cultural environment. I'm wondering why you bother to stay there given the high stress levels that you exhibit on this board. Maybe it's time for a change. Maybe you should consider something lighter. |

It's hot today but I am wearing my brown polyester shirt with orange stripes and khakis. Hey, I had my Business English kids today.

I am trying to decide which of you gents is most in need of a fashion makeover. Come on, it could be fun. We get to go shopping for new clothes and we can have celebrity (I mean "regular posters on Dave's") judges. The winner gets a fabulous new wardrobe, the losers have to go to work the next day dressed like homeless people / their students / librarians.

lighten up all mainland-dudes and dudesses. it doesn't really matter what we wear as long as we wear something. we're mostly hear for our white skin and that foreign feeling we spread including our 'whacky' dress. if we teach them something along the way that's even better. it's asia and it's called edutainment for davessakes.

If I'm feeling frisky, no shirt....Nanjing, is afterall...one of the ovens of China!
However sporting such attire requires my students to don dark sunglasses and apply SPF 30 sundblock as my high albedo factor reflects more incoming solar radiation than snow. |
