Could anybody enlighten me as to how much a teacher/lecturer at Zayed Uni could expect to earn, with 18 years of experience and a Masters degree? Anywhere in the region of 15,000/- a month? And what about the other benefits (holidays, accommodation, school fees)?
Just curious, you see...

Depending what kind of experience (tertiary counts most), it would probably be about 14,000. 40 working days holiday each summer (=8 weeks) + one week in late Jan which can usually be stretched to 2, good accommodation provided (exactly what depends on family size), school fees paid up to a limit (will cover most schools, but fees have risen lately and allowances haven't followed). |

Just to add a couple of other benefits... annual return tickets for the summer holidays, gratuity for each year worked (what is the current basis, younggeorge?) - and there are three holidays that provide 3-10 day breaks... the two Eids and National Day in early December.

Yes, and those tickets are paid cash, full fare, so you can usually get your trip home plus one or two local trips out of them - or have a bit of extra cash for your holiday. Gratuity is one month's salary per year of service, paid at the end of each 3-year contract (different from HCT, I believe, or have they followed suit?), based on your salary at the end of your contract. |

YG... on the gratuity... is it the 'whole' salary or just the 'base' salary. It used to be that only HCT and ZU paid on the whole salary.
Most employers use the base, whereas the majority of one's monthly pay is various additions to a tiny base. When they made the switch to whole salary, it - in effect - nearly doubled the gratuity.
Good idea to pay it at the end of each contract. Not sure if HCT still pays at departure or not. But, many have used this as a forced savings system, so that might let them fritter it away if they get it in hand.
Any way you look at it... it is a decent pay package. I like the new cash for the ticket system. It was quite tiresome in the past wrangling over the ticket and getting it changed. So much aggravation for both employer and employee...

Is there an adjective to describe the feeling you have when you get your final pay after completing your contract. monthly salary+bonus+holiday pay+leaving= ? |

Technically, it's the 'base'. However, there are very few allowances here - excluding school fees and accommodation which are clearly not part of the salary - so for most people the 'base' is actually the full salary. Moreover, I've had 2 of these gratuities now - frittered them both away of course - and been pleasantly surprised to get more than I expected each time. There must be some obscure formula involved.
