| started on language schools in '98 for 2 million plus rupiah a month. Now I'm in a good school getting good money+ housing and schooling etc. Yes you can make a career in teaching here and there's plenty of good schools, but are you a good teacher? |

That would depend on who you ask I guess.
I have been teaching in Jakarta for over 5 years at the same school. I make around 12 million a month for 25 hours. Problem is that's not much these days if you live in South Jakarta and have a family.
I think I have mentioned before that for a single guy or girl wanting a good time for a while you can certainly have that here. If you are serious about staying long term and saving for your future it is a different story. |

Funny thing I was looking at jobs last month and must seam to offer 5-9juta SAME as 4 years ago. Saw one that offered to pay the flight FROM YOUR PRESENT LOCAL so if I applied I would get a ticket for 150US wow what a deal!
Talked to many schools who said the air and housing is only for teachers hired from there home country!
So all in all costs of living have gone up but pay has not. Maybe next year inflation will be up another 30% |

IMO the next step would be to take a DELTA or Master Degree then move into school management if you're serious about a career.
ESL affords a great life if you don't have dependents or debts - sort of like pocket money for life. |

 Yep. Wish I'd said that!
You can make a thousand US in Jakarta if you have any kind of experience, according to what I learned in my recent visit. It's a fun city, but godawful polluted and the traffic is murder. The busways (dedicated bus lanes serviced by nice buses) have made getting around a little bit easier. |

a 1,000 us in JKT.??? so what noust bulays i know make 5-20,000US. but if you just want to have fun and travel 1,000US is ok
.... but what do you give your students???
o never mind they arnt worth anything ..right??? |
