The people who run King's International (i.e. the CD's; investors etc.) are completely unscrupulous. If you ever visit Web International (mainly in Shanghai) you'll notice a striking similarity because these guys set the place up as an EXACT copy (even down to the business cards and pen holders on the teachers desks!) as a way of avoiding the franchise fee from Web. No danger of getting in trouble for copyright infringements in China!

They don't get working for teachers for visas because they don't need to - good connections with the local authorities and deep pocket see to that. Some of the first students at the school were local government employees, so they are pretty well connected.

Basically, reporting them to the relevant local authorities won't help - they already know about them. Easiset thing to do is to find another job, where you can get a legitimate working visa, and chalk your time with King's down to experience.

*I know these guys personally and professionally and wouldn't dream of working for them.

"The Boys Club" of Xiamen? I presume we're talking about Frank, Pan and Terence?
I personally believe that socially they are nice people. Great guys to go out on town with. You could easily fit in with this crowd if you are prepared to do a lot of drinking, fraternising and womanising. The concept of Kings - as previously mentioned - was stolen from WEB International - from the entrance doors to the receptionists outfits to penholders and chairs.

They offer good money and great terms - but if you are not qualified or just a mediocre teacher - they will take advantage of you! If you have China experience - you could do well here. If not - don't bother.
Nothing personal to those posted but this is a good lesson for all those without qualifications thinking they can teach in China and make money - They will take advantage of you no matter where you are. Rather leave the teaching to those qualified to do it and know how to deal with people like Frank and Pan.
Don't bother going to the police - you're wasting your time and money and are going to feel even worse after. There is a lot of good advice already given in these replies which I agree with. There are some more options:
1) Take them to dinner, get them drunk, be one of the boys, appologise profusely and then firmly lay down the rules as to how you are to be treated in the future. Often what is said over beers is stronger than any contract.
2) Attempt to find out who the other investors are - win them over and rock the boat - not going to make for a good working environment but they will offer a package to get rid of you.
3) Run!! These guys won't bother to report you to authorities - they know they're too illegal to make a stink. They're just trying to intimidate you to get rid of you. This has become standard practise with a lot of schools in the East.

Is this one of the schools involved with Bing Liang and Peter Johnston? Sounds like their methods.

Yeah. Run. Run away! They've got a helluva more clout than you do. The only thing you can do is.........well, ever seen a Steven Segal movie??

Well, yes, I think it was your turn to get some bad karma Jeff. If you are half as rude as you were in recent posts to me jeffinflorida, likely you got what you deserved.

Now, had this sight been what it should be, an open forum where people feel free to ask and recieve knowledge, then you could have discovered that on your own you could have gotten a six month or longer L visa, instead of going every month on your own expense. you also would have discovered how easy it is to trade up to an F visa, which is better to ahve then an L.

However, judging frm your rude and insulting comments, it is obvious I think that you are part of the sysematic problem of degradation and overall trolldom here, so liek I said, I think you likely got what you deserved.

If more people were kinder and less degrading to others here, and stopped with outright insults and put downs against those who are here honestly seeking knowledge; then maybe folks like Jeff would not become so bitter and jaded from such an atmosphere. Maybe then this sight could become a place one coudl go to learn, instead of a haven for peons looking to feel bigger about themselves. Bye bye all Wink

"Has anyone actually considered working in this place?"

I have considered it based on the fact that I am going to China to establish myself with my Chinese girlfriend. I am looking for a temp job because I might already have one lined up for September in Xiamen or Fuzhou. I am going back home to Canada from the end of July to the end of August. If I start in May at King's, and only work for about 3 months, would this job be ideal if I just quit, giving them a few weeks/one month notice, and come back in September and work for the new job? Should I even bother giving them notice?

Should I just forget about my plans?

Thanks.

I can tell you that I have worked there and they blow through alot of FTs and most have been cheated out of salary and bonuses due.

My friend finished his contract at King's in Quanzhou and they simply told him they decided not to give him the contract bonus... No reasons stated, no valid reason. They just decided to withhold the specified contract bonus.

Skip this place at all costs....
