I like my mother-in-law too! She does drive me mad, but I think that's a lot of a mother's job. My mom drives me mad too but I love her. They're only doing it because they love me too much... Smile

Imagine my terror when I realized every day I'm becoming a bit more like my mother!

The latest development is ability to imagine a horrifying worst-case scenario, then carry on as though it were a reality.

But then there're good things too, like learning to be really nice to nasty people in positions of petty power, or buying clothes that can be mixed and matched.

My future children will no doubt be driven mad by me, but at least it comes with some good stuff too, like they'll know they're loved even when they're smelly and being jerks...

Take Heart, the story doing the rounds is that another weather front will be rolling in by 2 or 3 day of our first week back. Smile

Infact some some of my Turkish friends say that the weather feels like it did back in 1988 when it began to snow in late feb and snowed till the second week of March.

I wounder how many Mc Eng class programs have been called off due to the poor conditions. Question Wink

Have you heard the news guys? So God heard my prayers... school is starting on the 6th. We'll still have to go one more week in June, but who cares? The last week is fun and the weather will be nice... teachers have to go to school until June 30th, anyway, I was planning my trip to the 30th, so that's fine with me...

[b]Milli Eğitim Bakanı Hseyin elik, ilk ve orta dereceli okulların kt hava koşulları nedeniyle bir hafta daha tatil edildiğini, ikinci yarıyılın 6 şubatta başlayacağını aıkladı.

well... it depends on your principal, but the thing is that the Turkish teachers have to stay, so it's kinda unfair to have privileges just because we're foreigners...

privileges just because we're foreigners: well we deserve some. i certainly work alot harder than my turkish colleagues -for one, they teah english using turkish such a bludge, i dont speak turkish and i dont have any supplied books etc to use, so i have to create all my own resources, it's very difficult in a school/country that doesnt appreciate education. we as foreigners also get paid alot more, isnt that a privelege too - but i aint offering to give any of it back, are you?? im not meaning to sound harsh here but, working in this school system sucks, i am a real teacher, yes properly qualified, and plan to leave this country as soon as i can. if i was planning to stay on another year i might agree with you that i should sit around til june 30, but as im not, there isnt any point in sitting around all day making niceities for 2 weeks waiting for the time to pass. it's not turkey that i am sooo much angry with, just their hopeless education system and all the facade and wasted money that goes with it.

SCB222 its a pity you didn't speak up sooner about your perspective we don't really air enough of what we should on this forum. IMHO there is too much time wasted on petty comments to each other ,(yes entrails I just made one about you and that pathetic long winded non educational thread about ball games )I wish we could have 5 or 10 pages about an educational thread that effects us all instead we get bloody football more important you see .
The bottom line is we don't get the voice we need at our workplace so this forum is one of the few places we can let off steam some people here seem to forget that or just don't want to remember it.

i think this forum has always been open to discussions like this, but they got sidetracked for quite some time Twisted Evil

scb, i am sorry you are having such a miserable teaching experience here. i think it is more fun to teach at language schools because the students are adults, though there are still some class management and attitude problems. They are paying for it, though, and that also makes them a little more serious. years ago i trained to be a high school french teacher, but i could never teach kids anywhere, esp high school-- too many hormones.

i wasn't suggesting you do a runner. You might look into doing some p-t classes for a language school, though, just to see what it's like. Maybe then you would stay longer Smile
