Any degree is seen as equivalent to a TESOL cert. A native English speaker with any degree can get a job and a work visa in Merida. They prefer British English. The migri office is efficient and cheap. The staff is extremely stable. You will deal with basically the same 2-3 people that have done it for a long time. There is not a big caseload for foreign workers. There are some, but not many. As everybody knows, one has to get a job first and there are not many jobs for foreigners there. It appears that Merida is the capital of the free world for working illegally.

British English in Merida? I wonder how CIS, HH and Berlitz do so well if they teach American English???

Migracion is cheap? In your opinion, obviously.

Not a big caseload of foreign workers? Maybe those people ahead of me in line are there to buy tortas.

Easy to work illegally?? Then why the hell did the Migra visit my school twice checking teachers papers and even show up at my house making sure I actually lived there???

Please don't offer outdated information.

Just like the old Indian Chief that was called to testify, I cant swear to tell the truth, only what I know. If you have had a different experience, write about it and crawl back under your rock. Pelana!!!

MELEE, how right you are.

I believe you will probably receive a PM, soon. He has already used the lesbian, gay, and drug addict labels, so who knows what title you will be given. Since, I believe we are dealing with someone whose parents forgot to set the parental controls on the computer, I don't believe it will be too imaginative.

Hello all, long time...
(I've been on a little holiday, hence my absence. Cool Jazz clubs, West End Shows, good wine - and later dodgy tequila - and then... who knows?? Ahhh...) Anyway, thanks for the advice... I'm well pleased (yes I'm a pretty sad person) that I am the author of a popular thread! What a pity things got nasty, AGAIN! I have written to the powers that be, however there hasn't been any response. How do we deal with a situation like this? Rolling Eyes

Completely ignore the person. Under no circumstances whatsoever take the bait.
It will drive him nuts!

I agree this is the best policy. It's what I usually do, I had to comment this time because at moonraven's hieght, Lozwich was just down the hall from me and I could run out and tell ask her (or just yell out my office) if she'd seen the latest comment, and now I don't have a live person to blow off steam about stupid posts to. Disclaimer: Please note that the previous message clearly states that Melee would complain to the aforementioned Lozwich about Moonraven, and not the other way around. Being a saintly individual, Lozwich has never in her entire life complained about a single Dave's poster, not even that freak Mixteca Mike.

My two cents: Ive left Mexico twice with my tourist visa expired. Just handed it to the border oficer with a nice smile. I would really prefer a legal work situation, but haven't been offered it. I've also heard of people being hasseled by the belizian officials, and that immigration requirements were strictly enforced in Q. Roo. All second hand, so who knows.

Seriously, where is Moonraven? She simply vanished after posting she was teaching in the Middle East. It doesn't seem like her to up and disappear from her beloved Mexico without a word, does it? Hope she is okay and having a happy life wherever she is.

I can only assume that she's been banned. I would have thought she'd make a new persona for herself and resurrect by now. Maybe with the name phoenix? But it appears she just washed her hands of the whole thing.

Or maybe she was really in New Orleans, she disappeared just about that time...
