I have heard a figure of 5,000 legal teachers for Korea. So actual numbers for Korea may be upwards of 10,000.
For Thailand, In this province alone, there are about 100 foreign teachers that I know of. According to the Philippine Embassy there are close to 5,000 Filipinos teaching in Thailand. I would put the figure of foreign teachers at about 15,000 to 30,000 for Thailand.
For China, I have no idea, but I would be led to believe that there are a heck of a lot more teachers in China than Thailand. Figure 25,000 at least.
This guesstimate is about 50,000 for only three countries. Granted they are probably the top 3 teaching markets in the world, but any figure bandied about would be hard to verify.
Think about all the people who just teach a few classes a week or just teach privately. The numbers are huge. |

How many in the English speaking countries?
With immigration of non-English speaking families, there is TEFL work being done in the schools, community colleges and evenig institutes, to name but a few sources of instruction. |
