One thing that does happen though, is that these stories become HUGE in the home country of the victim. A few years back, a girl was killed in Sanliurfa by a member of the hotel staff, although it was not reported here, it was all over the news and papers in Taiwan. Pictures of the family bringing her home in a box ran on every channel.
Right now there's a story getting pretty good airtime in Japan about a couple who've gone missing somewhere in Turkey. They were last seen in Pammakale. |

As whether foreign women are considered prostitutes or not, I think that is happening less too, even though I live in an area of brothels. I don''t get asked as often if I'm Russian, so that's a good sign |
oooh, goody. you've answered what was going to be one of my first questions. i live in an "area of brothels" in japan, and get asked all the time if i'm ukranian (god knows how irritating that would be if you WERE ukranian or russian but not a prostitute) for much the same reason. i was wondering if i'd be facing the same thing when i move to turkey. |

This scam is not new but well known, in fact all you need is a guide book and read the "danger and annoyances" chapter, it's all there described in detail.
At the hostel I stayed at last summer the manager had put up leaflets about this scam all over the place to warn the guests and in the two weeks I stayed there at least three guys were victims of this scam.
The worst was, that all of them claimed not to have known about the scam. |
