| This is a highly symbolic first step towards downgrading FTs |
Roger do things like rank, class, social status (maybe even caste) play a big part in way the you view yourself with respect to rest of the world - are you one of those teachers demand respect because they beleive they outrank their students
Hey a tip - pay more attention to your teaching - get yourself a qualification - brush up on your written English - that's the recipe to respect in our game |
VIkkie girl,
I am glad I have the quals that I have, and not yours, my dear lass!
By the way, brushing up is a good idea: how about yourself brushing up on writing in English? I am not sure I have ever seen a post by you that was not riddled with typos and other flaws, serious flaws. In the above rposte you wrote, for example, "Do things like rank, class, social status play a big part IN WAY THE YOU view yourself..."
Vikkie, honestly, you should now step down from that pedestal and immerse yourself in one of those English classes - held for Chinese!
I am sure your TA can help upgrade your deficient mastery of the English lingo! |

Roger have you noticed how many threads involve you and someone throwing barbs at each other as opposed to just discussing the issues. I am not blaming you. One can not blame the lightening rod for attracting lightening.

Problem is, as FT's there is nothing we can do. We can't send them out of the class, we can't use the ruler, we can't make them wear a dunce cap. Damn I wish I payed more attention in high school.

cant send them out of the class....why the hell cant you

Ha, a rhetorical question! Are FTs regarded as such? I often feel the answer is negative; our advice or suggestions are not welcome; foreign ideas might rock the Chinese junk. We are treated as royal visitors - figureheads, really, not rulers or educators.
The injunction not to punish students is quite common; in my first college I was told to deal with truant, disruptive or disobedient students by...talking with the class representatives;incidentally these class representatives also were supposed to inform on me to the college. I grant that these days spying on FTs is less in evidence, but our position is seriously undermined by institutional checks and balances that actually emasculate us. You see, our students assess US, not the other way around, and what marks we give them can always be ameliorated in order to make them fit into the school philosophy...
I have never had serious, serious problems with students but I know where the limits are for us, and where they are for our Chinese colleagues. |
