With regards bringing a mobile phone into the country. My advice is don't.

My Mother came two months ago with belated birthday presents. One of which was a brand new motorola phone.

I inserted my Turkcell sim card and for 6 weeks all was all and hunkey dorey. Then last Saturday for no reason it just would not work, just a message saying "sim card unregistered".

I telephoned Turkcell, who I must say were very good. However they explained to me, that to use my phone I must get all the documentation for my phone from England including receipts and prove of where the phone was bought with a singature stating who sold it to me!!

Then when this arrives I must go to my local customs house, which for me is Antalya airport. Then pay a fixed sum. After getting a form from the customs office I must then send all the details to some place in Ankara (again with a sum of money) .

The girl at Turkcell said it should not take more then 6 weeks!!.

As my phone is my lifeline for work I had no option but to buy a new phone here and register it straightaway.

I can fully understand why they do it, to stop phone theft, but God what a pain in the proverbial!
