Henry, I'm reading between the lines here. Are you suggesting that thrifty should don a red t-shirt and shorts and start frequenting tea houses?
I've heard that some language schools pay peanuts... but that's ridiculous.

Here's a horror story....

My next door neighbour has been playing George Micheal's "Careless Whisper" ALL MORNING! The volume is on 11! She doesn't speak English, but she's SINGING! What a way to force me to get out of the house! Evil or Very Mad

she has been in prep school for 8 months, 6 hours a day. she has failed every level.
I asked her classmates what they did on the weekend. it was her turn. she answered: "I am eşme"
I ask: "how is eşme"?
she asks her friend: "how, ne demek?"

Other class horror story: Fat middle-aged maganda comes to classes because his wife does - that way, he can watch out for anyone who might steal away his beloved, who, by the way, has clearly been on a sea food diet for the last thirty years - she sees food, she eats food - and sits in the corner, day after day. month after month goes by, and the most communication he ever gets out is the odd grunt. The teacher tries to encourage, then despairs, then gives up. At the end of nine months, the teacher's on his way to another class. He passes fat middle-aged maganda in the corridor.
'How are you?', he says.
'Uh?' says fat middle-aged maganda.
Teacher thinks 'FFS' and goes on to his lesson.
During tea break, he feels a tap on the shoulder. Behind him is fat middle-aged maganda, carrying one of those little yellow Langenscheidt dictionaries in his sweaty fat hoof. He peers at the page, runs a finger down a line, then says, in reply to the question of 45 minutes previously,
'Tank.'
Shocked Rolling Eyes Laughing Laughing Laughing Laughing

for one who expounds on qualifications don't you think that a PHD in linguistics or something else marketable or interesting would land you a well paid job teaching in one of the departments of a university. surely that beats TEFLing, no???
