Of course, amateurs such as you ARE confused - permanently.

You have only one agenda to push and you are none too subtle about it - antagonising others.

If you read that quoted Roger's comment you would see why he advocates reciting; I go along with it.

Reciting is not bad if it's done for the right reason; I think it can help students improve their enunciation, pronunciation and intonation.

BUt in MY observation, students were not attempting to improve their pronunciation; in the case I mentioned students were actually preparing for a "discussion class". I said they were "adults" and paid good money to attend classes precisely so they could improve their fluency.

Well, what kind of "discussion" is that if your students memorise answers straight from their textbook?

BUt we know you are not teaching in China; you are giving kiddies aged 2 to 5 the chance to ogle and touch a round-eyed foreign monster that speaks Danish and Brummie English, right?

As an old China hand, I have learned students will always complain. You either speak too fast or too slow, you don't allow them enough free talk time, you don't let them study their Band Four and Band Six during your lessons, blah blah blah. Students no longer find Western teachers a novelty, they are used to it now, and they don't respect you.

If you let it get too you by being too sensitive to their bul****, it will not help. Just take charge of them and do your job the best you can.
