I bought a Macbook about a month or so ago and it is BRILLIANT. I would definitely recommend it to anyone. Yes it takes a little getting used to if you are only familiar with PCs, and you will have to learn how to use Mac, but it is easy once you get the hang of it.

One thing I love about Macs is that they make things very easy for you. Things that would take three or four steps on a PC, only take one step on a Mac. I haven't had to install anything -- not for my digital camera, not for my ADSL modem, nothing. Just plug it in, and the Mac knows exactly what to do. It is like a smart machine! Really I can't tell you what a joy it is to use this machine.

Changing the language to English is as simple as can be, you don't need to buy any software or anything. You can change it to other languages too, if you want. Click of a button. Easy.

You CAN order an 'English keyboard' if you really want to, for no extra charge, but trust me, it's not necessary at all. I bought mine with the regular 'Japanese' keyboard but rest assured the keyboard IS in English, the letters just have hiragana below them.

Many Windows applications, for example MSN Messenger, also have versions for Mac, so you should be able to find what you need. But they probably wont be exactly the same.

Also like someone said before, most computer viruses are created for Windows. But with Mac you wont need to install anything like spyware, popup blockers, or antivirus stuff.

((on a side note I think Microsoft probably creates the viruses themselves so that you have to keep buying their crappy 'protection' and download other crappy programs and firewalls and so on to clean your comp. it's a conspiracy i tell you!))

Anyways. BUY A MAC.

I'm trying to decide between a 14.1 HP with an nVidia graphics card, 2GB RAM, Duo Core 2, 120GB HDD all for $1350 or a Mac with less features (only high-end MacBook Pros have nice cards, $2200+). 13.3" screen seems a bit small, but 15.4" is too big. I wish they didn't abandon 14". I like the fact I can dual boot to Windows and still use my Windows software, and that it's supposedly much easier to switch languages on OS X. Anyone have the 13" MacBook here? How popular/unpopular are Macs in Japan?

Also, what's wrong with having a Japanese keyboard? My friend had one and it was so much easier to switch between English and Japanese than it is with a US keyboard. I think it'd be to your disadvantage to not have a Japanese keyboard in Japan since it's a pain in the ass trying to type the characters with the Windows multi-language program.
