| I agree that it is not ideal to have people take the CELTA who are not proficient in English. Whether they take it or not, many will return to their home country and attempt to teach English. They will probably rely on their own language learning experience and teach mainly in their native language. At least by allowing them to take the CELTA, they will be exposed to alternative ways to teach language, hopefully student centered and based in communicative methodology. They can at least take those notions back with them when they return to their home countries. Perhaps at the same time by doing the course, they will realize their own weaknesses in English and it will inspire them to study harder. |
