This is why language and English are not tools of imperialism, but rather a simple by-product of dominant trends. |
English has spread on the back of colonialism, and imperialistic policies inflicted onto subjugated populations.
The current dominant EFL industry may or may not continue this trend but they are certainly influenced by the crimes of the past.
The dominant nations who impose language do so for their own advantage. In the future English only speakers will be disadvantaged due to an ebbing away of global dominance leaving the native population with an impoverished education caused by the past reliance on global influence at the expense of language learning. |
