Most HCT people I know are happy with the raise. The only ones I hear or read about not being happy are on this web site.
I'm sure if HCT teachers got 40%, they'd wonder why they didn't get 45%.
I think people should go HOME if they don't like it here... oh, that's right... they couldn't get jobs in their home countries or would have to drastically change their livestyle. boo hoo |

Why obviously? "Most HCT teachers" known by the poster could be two out of three. Quite probable, actually. |

What's to wonder about? 45% would almost put you even with the soaring inflation! |

So you think a 12% increase, 6% in January and 6% in august is a fair and proper rise.
As I hear, the HCT staff have not had any changes in pay scale for eight 8 years. Just counting for inflation, which is currently, "officially", running at 8%, not only is this a negative pay rise but a genuine slap in the face to all the loyal and hard working staff of the HCT.
Consider, as I have been told, that the Directors (of which there are many, springing up all the time) award themselves a pay increase every year calling it "cost of living", "recruitment incentive", "increment re-adjustment" etc. and leave the staff with nothing for 8 yes 8 years.
Just to put this pitiful and inadequate "raise" into perspective.
The federal government realised the true devaluation of wages last year and gave all national government workers a total of 40% pay increase. This year they are due to get another 25%, with some receiving up to 75%.
Now look at the 12% the HCT has so kindly given to its staff and you will realise the disdain and contempt that the government feels for hardworking, loyal and experienced employee's. |

I have to agree with WOW I work for HCT and if I were given a 40%+ pay rise Id be quiet happy. However, Im getting a 12% pay rise in two parts, half of which replaces the bonus I would have received anyway. StillIm happy. I'm not bitter!
To: like2answer (respect2u) but ..

(Clears throat)
The era of EFL teachers being native backpackers taking a year out on walkabout has surely run its course and I'm sure you'll agree that the whole business of TEFL is taken very seriously by a vast number of career teachers most of who are highly motivated and continually strive to improve their training, often at their own expense.
They applied for jobs in foreign countries and if accepted are invited by that host country to leave their families and homes and work in a strange environment, in a different culture and often under stressful conditions.
Even given that for most of us thats an added attraction, EFL teachers still have the right to a fair salary, good housing and a safe working environment. Im afraid comments like .people should go HOME if they don't like it here dont wash. One could argue that readers who dont like hearing (HCT) teachers moan and groan about their lot shouldnt come onto Daves EFL website.
Of course I cant get a good EFL / ESL job in my own country.
That the problem with English as a Foreign Language, it all pivots on that Foreign bit.

Besides, I have to stay here, I have a house paid for in the UK but I want a second one in France.
Merci, un et tous |

| We received a significant pay hike at HCT more recently than 8 years ago. I think it was 2001. Somewhere around then. |

Nobody that I know at HCT did. (Except directors who awarded themselves a 30% increase in, well maybe 2001). The last across the board pay increase was in 1996. They also got a double months pay for the 25th anniversary national day. Oh, for the good days under Sheik Zayed. PBUH, RIP. |

| No, I was with HCT from 1997 to 2002. There was a significant across-the-board pay increase. There is no question about that. |
