I've had them too. I thought they were very good until things started getting stuck in my teeth. |

Shortly after I first tasted chapulines about 4 years ago on a roof on New Years Eve, I fell over, and caused serious trauma to my knees, which has now resulted in me having had 1 operation and waiting for the next one next month. You have been warned.
(Oh, and the mezcal I was sipping with them had nothing to do with the falling over! ) |

| OMG. Hearing that's enough for me never to do anything more in the kitchen with them than run water on them till they go down the drain! I hear mescal is therapeutic. Like tequila. |

| Ohh, a Mexico thread I can relate to. During my Texas/Oklahoma sojourn, we were warned to turn our shoes upside down and give them a good shake before putting them on, in order to escape possibly paralysing scorpio bites. Fun times. I wonder if this happens in Baja California. |

Hola,
I introduced myself in the freelancing post thingy. Have only been in Mexico for 6 months roughly. Living in Monterrey and haven't seen any scorpions - don't think they live in the city here. I have however discovered to my utter horror that cockroaches here can fly...eeeeeeek. Had one land on my back and I must say I was very calm telling hubby to get it off, get it off, get it off. I didn't know there were any that could fly.
Anyway I want to know if anyone knows what a certain bug is...it basically has a fly body with weird cricket legs and it does fly. I have never seen them before but I don't like them because they tend to fly straight at you. They are about the size of a regular housefly. I killed one and left it attached to the wall as a warning to the others. Seems to work.
Oh and our dog is unfortunately no help whatsoever with the creepy crawlies including roaches. She just gives them a sniff and runs off in search of her ball or food. So I keep the raid can handy. |
