				| you mean chapulines? Of course! They are a Oaxcan delicacy. I am not a big fan myself, but I will eat them to be polite... |

Hehe. They served menudo one time at the prepa where I worked. It's actually similar to a chinese version I've had in the past, both of which I'm not really fond of.

My coworker (another Canadian) freaked when he realized he was nibbling on a bit of pork ear and skull. He was dry heaving too for a bit after that. I encouraged him to hold it in, as upsetting our hosts and the wonderful catering staff wouldn't be too kind. |

				| I am not sure what they are called, but locals serve up these minows fished out of Lake Chapala and fry them up. They are truly gross and just thinking about them makes me want to throw up in my mouth. |

I can't remember the name of this stuff...

It was served on a crispy tortilla, and looked like little round white gooey things, very chewy, that I assumed was a vegetable. I found out that it was part of a cow's foot half way through, which kinda spoiled the rest of it. I didn't finish... |

				| I was in a store recently and saw a woman grab a can of something I didn't recognize. I'm adventurous so decided to buy it-chongos. I read the ingredient list and it was just milk, some kind of cheese which I found out later was whey, sugar and cinnamon. Well, it wasn't that bad except that it was sickeningly sweet and the texture, because of the whey, was a bit odd. At least I know now! |

Pata de Res

Being English, I love Black Pudding fried for breakfast. The Mexican version, Moronga, appears to be made of the same ingredients...basically pig's blood and fat (honestly, the English version is delicious!!!)... but smells of urine |

Fritada in Nuevo Leon. I knew that it was a blood pudding type of thing, but I didn't know what it looked like, and it was fritada that I served myself at the buffet. (No signs, thankyouverymuch.)

				Fuzz,

Are you in Mexico?

If so why?

I can't imagine living in a place where I hated 95% of the food. |

I had pozole for lunch yesterday!!

It was special Lozwich vegetarian pozole, but it was super yummy indeed! I found some at the local French haven of capitalism and ate the entire packet in one sitting. I haven't had pozole for about 3 years, and it was great!

Would have been great with a bit of mole plonked on top though. MMMMMMMMMMMMM |

haha, the most disgusting thing so far was eating tamales and coming across a huge fat globule...ew. I am not adventurous enough to try the other stuff - the thought of most of that just turns my stomach. I wouldn't make it on Fear Factor, that's for sure.

I just had a stomach infection so I'm kinda turned off a lot of food lately even though it probably had nothing to do with Mexican food. I will get back into it, just need a break for now. |

I just thought of something else that I think is gross. Los curados de ciruela. They are these small whitish fruits that are put into containers and covered in sugar. They are left to ferment and the liquid turns into a kind of alcohol. They then soak in the alcohol for a while. They sell them in the street and it just tastes like a big piece of boozy rotting fruit. Yuk!!

Cangringo, sorry to hear about the stomach infection. I had one about a month ago and believe it or not, I got it from eating dinner at a friend's house. This whole time, I have been eating street food and dining in dodgy restaurants with reckless abandon thinking I had a cast iron stomach. It can happen anywhere. Glad to hear that you haven't given up on Mexican food, afterall, isn't that part of the reason why we are all here?? |

thanks danielita, ya it seems you can get them from anything

It seems that it has to happen sooner or later here though - come on how many of you have had a stomach infection?? I needed antibiotics and the whole bit. Of course they didn't cost even half as much as they would in Canada. No cervezas for a week though.

I have to eat more hot sauce I think, it seems to keep my stomach in line oddly enough. It's ok slowly getting back into the Mexican swing but I still refuse to eat menudo and whatever barbacoa our roommate was cooking last night. I believe the label said something about lips...?? It smelled rotten so not even going there. |

				| I've never had a problem in three years in Mexico. I have a cast-iron stomach, though many of my co-workers apparently don't, what with all the stories they tell me. |
