| There actually are some disreputable schools that prefer their starting teachers not to have a working visa (technically called Status of Residence, a visa is something entirely different). This way the employer can easily get rid of a teacher by threatening to turn them in to the police or immigration if the teacher disputes unpaid wages or an unjust firing. |

thats crazy! I cant imagine being threatened by my company, when its the company that should be threatned....weird
since you brought this thread back I guess I can tell you the very end of the story about going home etc.
So I emailed my second boss a letter telling her all about our trip etc, well a few weeks later she asked for a meeting with her and the main boss. They meeting was very successful but also very stressful. The second in command boss was SO angry, we think that it is because she is overworked. We are complaining being gone for 12 hours of the day and she has to be gone for 14 hours of the day, maybe that is why she was so angry, Japanese workers are overworked and under appreciated, I guess I would be angry to. But she was SUPER angry at my husband, it was very awful, and she was acting very "unboss like", the boss even told her to calm down at one point. I wish I knew what made her so angry, but things are better now.
So we went on and on for a while (my husband and the second boss) and I finally called up a proposition. I said that my husband would be a "good teacher" if he had time to plan (this was one argument); he now has no time to plan and is usually very tired when he gets to class. So if they make his schedule normal (like everyone elses) then his teaching will get better. The second part of the proposition is that we go home the month of august during summer break instead of at the beginning of July (at this time ALTs could cover our classes). They said ok to both. I was sad that we would miss my brothers wedding but now we can go home stressfree (and for a longer time).
WELL when I looked at plane tickets I see that there is a 100000 difference between the beginning of august and the middle of July, SO I send a email (I know it is awful) asking if we can move up our vacation a few weeks, she emailed me back saying that that was ok and that we could stay home until august 24! I know that this because they are saving money this way by making the ALTs work and not having to pay us BUT I am still happy....so it all worked out...thanks for all the advice!
We also have to go to Utsunomia (sp?) to get our visa re-entry, let me know if you know any cool sights there... |
