Well, all the damning condemnations aside of the New Village - which I mentioned only as a searchable example of a 'problem school' for those planning to come to Japan - it is good to see someone articulate enough to express the downside of such small despotic 'schools' whether it be in Japan or Korea or elsewhere.

I certainly won't dwell on the New Village (or this Mr Miller's) unprofessional actions, but I have to observe that the facts as posted by Jwater800 do appear to be consistent with my own searches on this school located in Kobe.

This case isn't unique by any stretch of the imagination. Difficult employers who treat their businesses as their own personal play thing often fall foul of the law. Certainly in the case of the New Village the non-payment of salary, numerous investigations by the local labor bureau for other related matters and unsightly and personally offensive postings don't recommend Mr Miller or his school at all.

Take care wherever you go - and in general I have found Japanese management to be much better choice than many of the oddities that turn up from native English speaking countries.

The thing that totally amazed me about Brian Miller's (the owner of New Village?) behavior wasn't that he unlawfully with-held salaries, or dismissed the employee on a completely unsubstantiated pretext in the hope of getting away with it, I wasn't even that surprised when I read his numerous libellous postings.

No, what really amazed me was that he was actually arrogant enough to come online to confirm these issues as true using his own name (Brian Miller), company name (The New Village) and company position (Director) as if what he had done and what he was doing at the time was in some way noble! WOW! twisted and stupid I'd say.

For the information of any other 'directors', publically admitting your unlawful activities and slandering your former employees doesn't constitute a particularly convincing defense of your character.

Oh and Mr Miller's so called defense was long-winded, pretentious and turgid too Laughing jeez...

Fantastic and very informative -- thanks for all your insights everyone. I am resurrecting this post as there are a flurry of post on the Korean board about the 'Korea-Japan' issue.
