Love Quzhou.. You may be lucky enough to bring your med forms signed by your Dr. in the USA and NOT have to undergoe the supplemental exam in Zhejiang. Im in Zhejiang and all the res. perm. formalities start with the local PSB and then you do your medical in the provincial capital, (hangzhou) we had our docs from the USA, all they made us do was sign some forms and we were good .. No medical required..
good luck |
Thanks for the info, upchuckles. This is one of the very few really helpful replies I received in this thread. Yes, and you are right with this information . I just received an email saying the same thing from the Waiban of the school in Quzhou and they checked with the Gong An and the hospital in Hangzhou again. So, your information has also been confirmed by them.
I think it is important to publish such concrete information in the Board here as many more people may be concerned.
Hope to meet you perhaps some time in Hangzhou....
Peace to all "enemies" and friends...... |

[quote="A'Moo"]Knowing Chinese is a big deal here, irregardless of what anybody says....quote]
Irregardless of your level of Chinese, you certainly shouldn't be teaching anyone English. Neither should the original poster, based on the numerous (and rather bizarre) errors that permeate his writing. That is why I guessed that the OP was a non-native speaker - the errors in his writing are not typos and are also not the type of errors a native speaker would make.
As to the original question, I wouldn't be surprised if the local officials in Zhejiang accept a medical exam from your home country. I also had success with that in Zhejiang. Just make sure that your doctor does *all* the tests mentioned on the form and signs and stamps every piece of paper and test result you plan to bring to China. However, you need to be prepared for some random bureaucrat to reject your paperwork once you get here and force you to take a local medical exam. This is China, and that kind of stuff happens all the time. If that is really going to cause you to get on the next plane back home, you might want to rethink your plan. |

I had a Medical Certificate issued in Jiangxi Province which was valid for a year. After 6 months I changed schools and provinces (to Jiangsu) but had to have a new exam and certificate issued by the Jiangsu PSB.
Different rules in different provinces apply. Each province is a law unto itself in many aspects of foreigners employment.
Wait 'till you get to your province to have your medical. Some are rigorous, others could be passed by a diseased dog. Anyway, why pay yourself ? (through the nose no doubt in the US), most schools will arrange the date and pay for the exam for you after they agree to employ you. |

Check the Chinese consulate's website. Read the visa requirements carefully.
If there's no requirement for a physical prior to your arrival, don't bother with a stateside physical because more than likely, your school will send you down to the clinic for another.
In 2004, the consulate required all the authentication rigamarole for the med check and the degree. In 2006 it didn't. I worked with a guy last year who got his degree out of a box of Cheerios and nobody cared. |
