You're assuming I'm saying that you can't make any moral statements or take any stand. I'm not. I'm simply saying that you have to be up front about the moral standpoint you're taking. I'm sorry if the distinction was too fine or you don't see the point of that.
Doesn't it strike any of you as somewhat ironic that you're arguing a moral position but refusing to recognise a position that examines or asks you to justify those morals?! |
Who said I have any morals? I certainly didn't talk about them.

| That is really funny: right after complaining about the loonies at yasukuni you turn around and tell me to go elsewhere for asking you to explain your own position clearly? Yup, real open to alternative viewpoints and not at all blindly expecting acceptance of your own ideal you are. |
Hardly what my statement was. I suggest you read posts a little more carefully. I didn't see that in there, you asking me to explain my position more clearly.
Basically it's that a government shouldn't legislate its own view of history beacause it wants its citizens to be more proud of their country. Japan especially shouldn't do this when its view doesn't fit facts that have been assembled in various places around the world and crosschecked aganist available evidence. It would be equivalent to saying Hiroshima and Nagasaki were never hit with atomic bombs.
So my impression is that you come across as too much of an apologist for a right-wing government. As to going somewhere else, it was a suggestion if you're looking for like minds. Where you decide to post is up to you, I don't dictate commands to anyone (well, my students somtimes ), I am only making a suggestion. That and write clearer posts, if you want something, ask for it . |

These boards can be frustrating when getting sucked into silly debates. I think the best thing is to consider the source when engaging in a discussion. If the discussion involves a poster that has a track-record of irrational and uncivil behaviour, it's probably best to steer clear and make a better use of your time.
Personally, I have a lot of respect for posters that can maintain a civil and respectful tone, even when being unfairly antagonized. |
