To sickbag, are you from Brighton then? I was was born in Brighton and lived there till I was went to university. Marvelous plave in the summer.

To sheeba, those were incredible times indeed. At the time I never realised how special it all was, I thought the change in the world always occured like that. But that was a unique time. Did you ever go to any raves in Brighton. Know what you mean about the deafness thing, the volume at those places was ridiculous.

yes...although I, being a book-lover, refer to them as "chapters". Wink

I gave up a nice home in a quiet, desirable neighbourhood...a late model car...stable work with great benefits...comforts to the Nth degree!

but: the TEFLing bug was strong...being a "third-culture" kid as a result of having lived in various parts of the world throughout my life makes my personality unsuited for the staid and "standard" lifestyle.

No I can't recall going to Brighton . I worked for summer schools around Brighton and we used to hit the town a lot . But those summer schools always required you back by 10 pm so I never got the chance to really party in Brighton . I love the place . When I was a kid me and my brother used to get a train down to Brighton and lose all our money in the arcades. Fruit machines - another one of my previous addictions !!

Fat Boy Slim does his stuff down there still right ? That looks cool . I met a girl from Brighton in Thailand that told me people didn't really respect him too much cos he never plays out in Brighton except that one big beach party . I also saw Eubank waving at people in Brighton . she told me he was considered mentally ill these days by Brighton folk !

Brighton is cool man !! I'll be back there !

Sickbag's avatar reveals he supports the same team as me. No names, no pack drill! I'll raise a pint in his direction before the Sarfend game, and with any luck on the 28th May as well!

I think it's healthy to have positive attitudes about were we have all come from. It doesn't mean we don't appreciate where we are, and all our new experiences. Some expats where I am now seem to have to justify their moves my denigration and negativity regarding where they came from.

I never gave up anything! When I began to travel and teach fresh out of university, I had nothing to lose and everything to gain. Spent a decade, off and on traveling and teaching in four continents.

Then I stopped, came home, got married, had a child and became a middle class man. We just bought our second home, bigger and better. I work four hours a day and spend the rest of my time with my daughter. My life has never been more comfortable. Where I live now there is no traffic, no noise. On the weekends as I sit in the balcony and sip my coffee, it is so peaceful that I can hear my stomach digesting my breakfast.

If it is true that nothing is more dangerous than safety, then I am living the most dangerous life possible and loving every minute of it. I never want to be a foreigner again; I never want to be any place where English is a foreign language. I never want to share an apartment; I never want to live in an apartment.

I wouldn't give up my life for all the adventure in the universe. My daugter is the greatest adventure that will last me a lifetime!
