Given that the OP has a degree in Applied Linguistics, I'd imagine he would be looking for one of the better-paying jobs in a the third level college rather than in a school.

Right. His wife might be looking to a school?

Some information on salary scales in a third level college would probably be helpful to him if anyone here knows.

Have no clue what the OP's wife is looking for.

And given that he seems to have given up on his own thread, I'm not sure if I'm bothered providing information he won't read. Discussions on restaurant escorts (?) are so much more fun...

I have not lost interest in the thread, rather the computer tech guy at my school lost interest in maintaining the network... Am back up and running now however.
My wife is indeed spectacularly leery about going to the KSA. She believes that since she is visibly asian, is not a native speaker (although she is both extremely proficient and holds English degrees) and is a woman she will be discriminated against.
She also doesn't want to be a compound wife or be restricted in the ways that females are over there. So, it looks like I will be taking a lower paid position somewhere like Singapore or Malasia or maybe even Hong Kong. Thanks for all the information, have a good one.

Or Canadian. The version of the language understood and spoken by the largest number of native English speakers worldwide.

It means good day.

What some of us think of as 'everyday' is unknown or exotic to others !

Maybe you could go into more detail. I'm not trying to pick an argument but am curious about your point.

All expats who live and work in Saudi Arabia enjoy a peaceful and certainly priviledge lifestyle. Therefore it is a little annoying to hear some of the negative comments; If you you are going to an Islamic country you should expect to respect the laws of the country. Shops closing five times a day is essential so that the Muslims can fulfil their religious duties.

Women are NOT OPPRESSED, pampered yes. What's the big deal if a woman is not allowed to drive? Personally I enjoyed having someone drive me around and deal with all the car troubles!!!
There are many outlets for women, not clubs and bars but certainly health clubs, womens groups, book clubs and restaurants. Women do not have to cover their faces and the abaya ensures that everyone is dressed decently in public, what your wife chooses to wear underneath it is up to her. Once she has established a group of friends your wife will not want to leave Saudi.

The Consulates have regular functions which are less strict. There are many sports clubs and activities for children. Saudi is certainly a safe option for bringing up children but naturally there is not perfect society in the world.
Depending on the establishment that you work for the salary varies. As for your wife the issue is more of accent rather than her qualification; Saudis will pay for the children to speak with a Western accent. She could do well from private tuition, it pays very well.

The last post has to be a joke. If you look at Theeducator's profile you will see that she lists her occupation as ''PRINCIPLE'' !!!!!!!!!!

^ Well, the level of English writing ability demonstrated in her post also points to what you said. Not horrible by any standards, but certainly not up to the level of what one would expect from a school PRINCIPLE in the UK Cool

Or a native speaker. It does cast some dubious light on the perspective of her post.
