|
|
| I took the plunge and tried used-book buying on eBay for the first time last month. The 3 books I bought were mailed in mid-July, and arrived today! They were shipped from a bookstore in the U.S. by mail at the cheapest rate, which was a flat-rate box, and the postage cost $US 23. (I'm in the DF, btw.) |

| Shipping for three books from eBay was $23? That's not too bad. I order all the time from eBay...shipping from Europe or the US usually takes 2-4 weeks, and I've been averaging about 7 dollars per book. Haven't had one go missing yet! |

| I wonder if shipping would be cheaper overall on larger shipments... if so, maybe we can order stuff together Guy. |

It is on Amazon--not sure about ebay, would individual items be shipped from different sellers?
On Amazon, it costs more to ship two books, but less than two individual shipments. When I order I usually get three or four things at a time. And of course things I absolutely would not find in Mexico (like "Everything You Need to Know to Have a Healthy Twin Pregnancy" ) |

If you order several from one seller, yes, they sometimes offer better shipping rates. Let's put a list together. |

| There's been a book fair all week on Alvaro Obregon, on the walkway where the weekend artists and antique dealers set up shop. |

Guy, where do you have the books you order from eBay delivered to you? The apartment I'll be staying at in Mexico City doesn't have mailboxes. The mailman leaves letters and such on top of the electricity meter boxes in the entranceway. Maybe I should look into renting a PO box, but what would happen if a package arrives and is too big to fit inside?

| I guess you could pick it up at the local post office if they miss you dropping it off. In my building, the women who takes care of building cleaning receives parcels. |

Well, I finally found my notes on the widest selection of used books in English in all of DF and the winner is....
Libreria Inframundo
Donceles 78-3 Centro Historico
5512 3790
I estimate they have 6,000-10,000 in all.
The back aisle is 12 feet long, both sides and from floor to ceiling covered with English titles. They have another aisle even further back that is partially filled with libros en ingles.
For those of you who have visited it but dont recall the exact location as there are several used bookstores on that block, its the store with the 3 10 foot mountains of books. |

| I just got back from a trip to the local public library and was thinking about how much I'll miss being able to borrow books for free once I'm living in Mexico City. Here's hoping that the prices at Librera Inframundo are reasonable; I envision many happy hours scouring its shelves for book treasures! |

I haven't been checking newsstands or Sanborn's lately, but will.
According to Wikipedia...
| Quote: |
| The News, published in Mexico City, is a Mexican English-language daily newspaper that is scheduled to re-open its doors in September 2007. The newspaper brand is almost 60 years old, having been founded in 1950. |
