The consulates don't care what your education background is, or whether you have any experience. The people who care are in the provincial capital of the city where the school is located in. These are the education ministry/bureau (however they call themselves) responsible for issuing the Foreign Expert Certificate. The consulates only want to see the visa invitation, the letter of invitation, and the work permit. |

For my first position they used a .jpg scan of my degree, and they never checked out anything.
They also didn't care about my master's degree or ask for a copy of it, the BS degree was good enough.
(I found out they didn't want to pay an extra 300 RMB a month)
Nobody cares as long as you can polish up enough to be called a teacher. |

I know this school, it's the same one where the headmaster insists that everyone call one employee "Dr.", which I suppose it's sort of true..she's an optimitrist from the Phillipines masqurading as a science teacher. Shame about that other employee and her not so upfront credentials, everyone seemed to think she was going to "raise the level" of teachers out there, sad to find out she's just lying and probably at the school's request. BTW yes it is run by foreigners, one from the US who is clueless and the principal experience is not thailand, but Taiwan, where he was run out of the school for being unable to actually implement his "grand plans"...because he couldn't retain staff. The international school situation in Changchun has a real black eye because of this lot. I wish more parents would ask questions, but they just seem to want to fork over their 12,000 USD a year in tuition in order to have a babysitter they can count on! There's also a distinct B'Hai influence at this school, with lots of people on that particular bandwagon, and the teacher in question is an old "mentor" of the "School director" guy...I turned down a job with them at a very high salary after finding out more about these guys from the rumors running rampant in the local expat community.
Shame on all of them! The parents for not asking the hard questions (and accepting Language mill teachers for their tuition money) The school who lacks the experience and leadership to get the job done without cutting corners and taking liberties with the truth, and to this teacher, who is helpinig them lure in students, and lying about her own academic background to boot. |

I really am glad to be employed by a state school as I would not wish to join the rest of you in the eyes of eliseinchina
(and accepting Language mill teachers for their tuition money)
How do you people in the mills enjoy your new found status?

Fitzgud,
Let's keep it clean, Fitz. Until now, no filthy language as been slung.
I can attest that the posting previous to yours has spoken honestly.
The focus of the thread . . . is bending towards holding the schools responsible for knowingly advertising with false claims of teacher credentials to stir up enrollment.
I still want to know if penalties exist for international schools that hire non-accredited teachers under the false premise of honoring accredited diplomas.
Does anyone out there know for certain?

aww fitz relax, I truly meant no offense, I am simply outraged that the parents are TOLD their children are being taught by highly credentialed teachers, when in fact, they are taught by the first warm bodies who sign up and put up with the headmaster's line of BS. I AM a language mill teacher, I make really good money being a good one. Again, I meant no offense by my wording.

Flutter,
IBO schools can hire anyone they like. They USUALLY hire those with teaching credentials or those with specific industry experience in a given field. As long as a teacher at an IBO school teaches with the IBO methodolgy in mind, and meets the criteria set out by the school and the IBO then theres nothing anyone can do.
It takes several years to actually become certified as an IBO school that's why this particular school indicated "candidate status" and I DO think they are in for a rude awakening when time for actual certification arrives, I'm aware of at least two parent complaints which have already been logged with IBO it remains to be seen whether this school will EVER attain accredidation under their current leadership, but hey its China and IBO makes it's money by accrediting schools, not by refusing them...
The actual criminal part in my mind is the misleading of parents (by the school ) who are trying to obtain a high level internationally transferrable education, they sure won't get one at this school. |

Dear Elise,
You have sinned, you have transgressed beyond the realms of all common decency, to recant is not an option you shall be found guilt by the inquisition of daves
PS bring your own firewood and matches.
You could also get the phone no of that boring knight in shining armour above |

Ahh Fitz, you are probably so very correct in your assessment, I have stepped in it big time and will take the fireproof suit out of the closet and ask my neighbours to listen for the sounds of screaming should I spontaneously combust....
but while my verbiage was ill considered, I still stand by my idea,, if I am buying a Lexus, and paying for a Lexus because a Lexus is the best way to ensure my kids get safely from place to place, I Damn sure do not want to lift the bonnet and find my Lexus is powered by a VW engine. I just don't...
A VW engine is a VERY good engine, it's cheap, it gets good gas mileage, but it's NOT The Lexus I am paying for...simple as that, at least for me it is. When parents send their kids to International Schools, there is an expectation about the type of education those children will receive, and in the case of this Changchun school, that expectation is not met...

Pray, why do you keep your fireproof suit in the lavatory are you not supplied with a wardrobe?
You are waffling madam, a fireproof suit in the lavatory, an engine under the bonnet, not under the hood? This shows your colonial origins. I hope you get your comeuppance this evening in Paris.

I shall pass your comments onto my very English father and my poor colonial mother... imagine their distaste at my being labeled a true mongrel and their second thoughts at living in multiple countries whilst I was growing up...shame on them! Shame!
Off for retail therapy, after all one should be well presented when a comeuppance is on the horizon!
