I've got one of those helpers, too. I asked if she liked her "classe de musique" and was told that it was a "cours de musique." She's barely five years old and already I'm embarrassing her. |

I have a laptop, albeit one with a fairly large screen, and when I use the Word side-by-side feature can never quite get all the text of both screens in view at the same time. Very annoying! So if it's a short text, I print out the original and use one screen on my computer.
Notamiss, the wordfisher program looks like a godsend - is it really free? no strings attached? |

Yup. I acquired it back when it cost $US 30, and considered it a good investment at the time. A couple of years ago, the developer decided to stop working on it so he made it available as freeware from then on. Indeed no strings or trampas. There is also a support group at Yahoo! http://tech.groups.yahoo.com/group/wfisher/ and he is still pendiente de messages at that group. |

| Do you need to tell clients in Canada or US that you are in Mexico? My only thing is getting payment, which they tend to mail by cheque, giving either a Canadian or American SSN and address. Other than that, clients never even phone me, though everyone seems to have a blackberry and expect immediate contact. |

Spoke too soon. Tibor just wrote me that I might have problems with Word 7. This new Vista computer, I can't even get a compatible webcam!!! Tibor suggested Wordfast. |

I downloaded Wordfisher, but...
1) According to thr README I got, you still have tp pay US$30 after 60 days or you lose some of the features.
2) It's too damn complicated, I think my time is better spent translating!! |

Most important thing is your own knowledge of the languages and subject areas you work with. I worked for years long hand or with a non-electric typewriter. I like calligraphy, too. Perhaps there is a niche market for illuminated translations. |

I think that README might be out of date. Anyone interested could email the author to ask. http://wordfisher.com/order.htm I'm sure I remember him announcing when he decided to make it freeware that he absolutely stopped collecting any payment for it. The README could be from back when a 60-day trial period was offered.

Each to his own. Speaking for myself, I found that it saved me lots of time and bother that used to be spent checking to ensure that I hadn't missed any sentences, and re-finding my place during proofreading (while switching back and forth between original and translation)... time saved that I could invest in finishing the translation faster and proofreading more efficiently and pleasantly. A one-time investment of 20 minutes to learn to use the program paid off time and again every time I use it. |
