| Lviv or Kyiv. Russian isn't always appreciated in Lviv though. Kyiv has a couple of Catholic churches and several Baptist and non-denominational Christian along with the usual Orthodox churches in multiple flavors - Greek, Ukrainian 1, Ukrainian 2 and Ukrainian 3. |

| It's important to understand that most of those 'flavors' of Orthodoxy are actually in communion and that the biggest difference is what language the Liturgy is held in - which means that, internally speaking, it doesn't matter which one you go to - Greek, Russian, or Ukrainian. There are schismatic churches, and in the Ukraine there is the Uniate Church - a church which is sort of part of the Roman Catholic Church, but the majority are on the same team. |

I have never head of a "Greek Orthodox" church in Ukraine. There are however a lot of "Greek Catholic" churches, which is what the locals usually call the Uniate church mentioned above (predominant around Lviv, etc.).
The "Russian Orthodox" and "Ukrainian Orthodox" churches report to different patriarchs but apart from that they are pretty much the same. |

| The Ukrainian trying to explain this to me kept saying Greek Catholic but also said it is really the Orthodox Church faction which recognizes the Pope's authority. Please accept my pardons if it seems it is misrepresented. I am certainly no theologian and neither is the Ukrainian guy who was telling me. This is no attempt at stirring up a debate, only trying to let the OP know that there are a few options in Ukraine. Chalk it up to a layman's attempted translation and good intentions. |

No problem. Misunderstanding would be the norm here.
FWIW, those folks are NOT Orthodox. Uniate (Byzantine Catholic) are Catholics who go through Orthodox moves in their worship. |

To Jasonr37 I wanted to say that I do know some people that regularly attend church in Moscow (not Orthodox). When I had a chance to get to Moscow I attended church. I know of some other churches in some smaller towns in Russia- St. Pete, Volgograd, other smaller places. I could also get info on churches in Ukraine. In Nizhni I visited a church I really liked. If you want specific info, you can pm me.
As for jobs I can't really help you there. |
