Gentleman, Gentleman,
Let me clarify that the ensuing problems can be contributed to my ignorance. Thats right, the miscommunication rest entirely on the fact that I'm a newbie. Now, with that known, let me indulge in what has taken place.
Because I took it upon myself to make a honest attempt to help, when the recruiter stated that I would need to begin the process of a Z-visa, (so we can get you into the country)I stepped up to the plate with " I can already get into the country because I have a multiple entry visa" Oh, I that case there is no need to start that process until you arrive for we have plenty of time to take care of that. For the sole reason that classes do not start until March of 08. You will first go to a winter camp for the certification of the TESOL Program. Then report to the University, during this time the University will handle all of the documents that are required for you to legally teach in China.
So in a nutshell, I would say that, because I tried to help, I could be placing myself in jeopardy. Maybe not. We will soon see.
The recruiter has been, other then one request, very participatory in this whole process. Numerous e-mail, 3 phone calls, 1 video call.
You guys have more experience than I do, this is a fact. I will continue to go forward with this endeavor, while in the hopes that they don't , so to speak, " Eat my lunch".
It seems, for posting the original question, I have received some positive feedback, but for the most I have be besieged with everything I'm doing wrong.
Live and learn I guess. For some, maybe the hard way.

It's good of you to clarify that. Recruiters get jumped on at the drop of a hat on this forum as you saw earlier in this thread about this very subject. It's nice to see that the recruiter was actually trying to help you arrange the Z visa before you arrived. Kind of nixes the theory that recruiters are all bad!

If you are being paid a salary locally for that winter camp then you would technically be working illegally so be careful about that. If it is one of those deals where they give you free certification for your free labor then you will be okay in the legal sense but be careful that the piece of paper they issue you is actually worth something.
If the plan is for the school to pay you a salary locally for the winter and prior to getting your work documents in order then I would suggest the following. See if you can get them to pay you overseas for that period. Once your work documents come through then you can safely collect a wage locally.

Unfortunately you get a lot of that kind of attitude on this forum but fortunately the moderators are reeling it in. The people who have posted against your plans do have legitimate concerns as some teachers do get stranded by promised Z visas that evaporate! But provided that you are aware and prepared then you should do okay. |

Sorry that I hadn't responded to questions directed towards me, but I've been traveling home for the holidays. The fresh air is wonderful here in the States!
No, I don't work for seriousteachers.com, but have received very fine responses to my cv posted there. I found my current job at that site and see no reason whatsoever to say anything bad about it. You post your photo and cv, with extras, and employers can contact you from your direct applications to job announcements. What could be less harmless?!?!?
I've been in and out of China for well over 8 years and know for certain that many, many, many public unis with good reputations will apply for the z visa and resident permit AFTER the teacher arrives, especially when the hiring process is in a rush.
If not, the routine is that the invitation letter comes first - no matter what - as you need it to apply for a z visa either in you home country OR the country in which you currently are employed. It is absolutely wrong to mislead anyone into believing that (s)he can apply to any Chinese consulate anywhere in the world.
Enough said on the whole matter.
Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays, egg nog, turkey, cranberries, and GOng Xi Fa Cai to all!!
And it is a good idea to let newbies know that some posters here give good advice, while others like to taunt a tad. |

"You will first go to a winter camp for the certification of the TESOL Program."
How I read it is that highland52 will be doing the course, not teaching it. I think he would apriciate any advise from those who have done the TESOL Program here in China. |
