Yes, if you don't want to be a robot steer well clear of chain schools. They are all exacly the same... or worse, and pay the teachers the tiniest fraction possible of what the school makes whilst raking in up to $2500 or more a month per student.

Yes, private language schools are indeed businesses, and like any other, they are there to make money. They expect their employees to do the job they way THEY want it done, not the way the employee would like to do it, not unlike most other businesses. I have worked at several that were perfectly fine. Not all are bad.

Harmon Hall is notorious. If you have to work for a big chain, then IH here in D.F. is said to be not so bad. I know a couple of people who worked there for a year or so. Lots of traveling and split shifts, though.

Have you looked into International House? That might be a better choice.

I haven't yet but I will. Thanks for the information. I pick my FM2 up this Wednesday so I'll be legal. I'll look around more then.

I interviewed with them last fall and was impressed with their professionalism and pleasant attitude. It is true, though, that if you want to make any sort of decent money at IH, you'll have to take company classes, some of them at very early hours, and do a lot of running around the city. I still have the names of the people I spoke to. Send me a PM if you like for the details.

And congratulations on almost having your FM2 in hand!
