Talking of the WhitJohn fellow down in Kunming shows another problem.

In China, they don't seem to care less what wrong a teacher has done. They don't renew the contract,

I concujr.

There is the Gary Glitter case. He was released earlier this year and tried to go to Hong Kong but was denied landing rights there. Finally he returned to the UK and is now officially barred from leaving the country.

When one contemplates the fate that originally awaited him - there was talk of handing him the death penalty! - one can understand the indignation of many. I am sort of glad Glitter got away so 'lightly' but I wonder how many crooks penetrate the schools network in developing countries such as China or Thailand.

My previous employer refused to fire a notorious womaniser who became a nuisance to his neighbours because of occasional noisy and unpeaceful departures of his various mistresses in a tenement building.

In my new place of work I heard right after my arrival that an FT married to a Chinese woman was run out of the college last year.
He was a proselytiser who used his religious network to recruit young women for his sexual gratification and, some people tell me, to lure them into prostitution (with the help of his wife).

Sounds extremely felonous to me, yet the guy is reported to be enjoying total freedom...
