but the point is the students don't get much of a say

its the companies or BOEs etc that make the choice and we all know they don't make 100% good decisions all day

My BOE was surprised when I told them that I would probably find it hard to get a job in another town/company (due to my age). They said they preferred a more mature teacher

but then in the long run, it is very much hit and miss as to what your particular company/BOE actually wants. I suppose their decissions/points of views are formed from experience with past teachers?
who knows?

I am scheduled to sign a contract with a placement agency that hires ALTs in my area. The recruiter said that there were ten teachers in their twenties or thirties employed by them. She even said that there used to be an ALT in his 40s (she didn't say what had happened to him)

I feel the conditions are pretty good. They don't provide housing but will act as a guarantor should I find an apartment. I am not too worried about this since I will be living with the girlfriend for a while and have friends who can assist in the area. My employer will be following the law and paying its portion of social insurance.

So, while at times an older teacher does come across age bias (yes, I have felt it), that person just has to hunker down and persist. If the job market is flooded, just move to higher ground Laughing
