I took the TEFL course in 2005. Everyone who wanted job assistance got it. I personally tried their assistance but ended up finding my own job. I felt that i was being pushed to accept something, since they guarantee jobs, rather than getting something I wanted. So I found my own....didn't choose a good school my first year, but chalk it up to learning and chose a much better one my next years.
For a complete newbie the course was very helpful. I learned a lot of little tricks and strategies that really helped me in my first year, where I was working with a terrible curriculum. It also gave me the confidence to help rewrite my school's curriculum in my next job. For experienced teachers, it probably isn't worth it, except as a piece of paper stating that you did it. As a non-Spanish speaker at the time, it also helped ease me into the culture, with lots of other English speakers around to help explain things or help me learn. Because everything was all arranged, I could concentrate on learning from the course, and starting to learn some Spanish. |

Hey "gdlmx1229",
Great questions; thanks a ton! I've been searching for real experience accounts from ITTO in Guadalajara online for a while now and you've really read my mind on the questions to ask. Good on ya'!
Now that you've taken the trip yourself (or maybe even as I type), what other insight would you have for someone as curious as yourself about the program and life in general?
[I plan on being in Mexico soon, and making my way to Guadalajara to get certified.] |
