The latest ads seem to be asking for a humanities degree, QTS, 3 years' full-time (post-qualification) experience and one year's
ESL experience. The pool of qualified applicants will be lessened for sure.
I'm aiming for this in the future because it sounds like a good fit for me, but I'm only just starting my PGDE (opted for a Grad DIP TESOL back in 2000 but can only teach adults or 'high school preparation'). Then I'll have to work 3 years in secondary, if I can find a full-time job. It's a pity because I've been teaching for 10 years, just not the right kind. I'm sure I can keep occupied in the meantime!

Hi
As Glen explains in his posts, the Ministry of Education do not at present accept applicants with qualifications from US universities. However, I have known US teachers at the private schools here, though they are in the minority.
Good luck!

Ditto.

This lack of familiarity with the system is the reason why no Americans get hired in Brunei. The US system is so different. The exams in Brunei are all from Cambridge, most students here end up in UK/Oz/NZ universities so rightly or wrongly, the MoE prefer teachers from that background. Plenty of places in the world prefer Americans over Brits. It just balances out. |

Panic...I had my interview with CfBT and it all seems positive and I think I am good to go. But I am Catholic (and teach in a Catholic board, at a Catholic school) and I wondered if that would hold me back. It is so nerve wracking waiting to hear.
CfBT told me that if I got the job they would send me the contract, but if I didn't they would not provide feedback. So again, its frustrating to think that if I don't get it I will never know why.
And since I am bring DH and the kids, again more pressure.
Just my two cents. |

Hi,
So glad your interview went well. I expect your application is now with the Ministry of Education. It is a nailbiting wait, but unavoidable - we have all been through it and as the CfBT quota is now in a very healthy position, many teachers are approved!
Good luck!

| Hey, atleast you have the chance to apply there. Americans can't. I know, its a small solace but nonetheless... |
