gee JohnKG I've been here since the beginning of this century and have not heard about registration fees (but hey, that's only 9 years) - but then I'm not a parent and generally tune out the minutae that my less? more? fortunate colleagues discuss in the lunchroom
Are registration fees more common at some schools than others? Or schools that follow certain curriculums - it would certainly be a concern to many parents considering relocation to the Emirates. |

An' don't forget a silly "little" thing called a "Foundation fee". This is a fee above and beyond ANY academic fee that may be levied on parents. It is NOT covered by my employer, one of the most reputable in the country and, as of this year, the school where my rugrat goes, it has risen to over AED 16,000. Why someone would come to this part of the world with two to work for ADEC is completely beyond me! She works HARD for her money, but now, it's "she works HARD for her babies' tuition!

Gee helenl, that's a surprise. Do you think there could be a relationship between your not being a parent (and therefore not having to register children in schools) and you not knowing the ins and outs of school fees????
I can assure you parents know about registration fees, holding fees, tuition fees, debentures, miscellaneous fees....
You know... I'm not a member of the equestrian club and ... don't be surprised... know nothing about saddles. |

Good question. If you spend 9 years tuning out of the minutae that your less? more? fortunate horsey colleagues discuss in the lunchroom, you still might not know |

Actually I've never been a member of the equestrian club, but I do know about saddles.
Such useless minutia clutters the average mind...

Minutae is never useless.
The mind is far too big to ever be cluttered.
Thankfully, I don't have an average mind |

I would like to know if anyone knows about the housing provided by ADEC. If you are single, do you have to share? Are you given a house or apartment? Are there kitchens, or only sitting room and bedroom?
Also, how far is the housing from the school? Are women allowed to drive? If not, what's the best solution other than taxi's to get around? |

| Women are allowed to drive - don't know anything specific about ADEC housing. |

| When the child/ren leave the school the 'debenture' fee is returned if all fees are up to date. I've never heard it called the 'debenture' fee, but I'm sure people understand an additional fee. Books, uniforms, and these holding, registration and whatever other fees the schools come up with are not covered by the employer. Employers pay tuition fees only. The big issue is not the school fee involved anyway, it's the quality of education that's the issue. Unless you're in AD or Dubai where the fees are exorbitant, there is no decent education available for western kids in the UAE. |

Some books are covered by my employer, as are additional fees - check the drop down box when you claim to see what's claimable. |

So true Mr JK, My old noggin is so eerily capacious, that inside, the distance herds of grazing wildebeests seem quite insignificant.
Pretty Vacant as the Pistols used to sing.
Speaking of which, any good vancancies in the UAE?
