tillymd: Born and raised in Portland, OR! Never been to Turkey though. Closest I've been is Bulgaria... which is pretty close. Neither of us have any teaching experience, which is why we thought we should get a CELTA. We've both done some small-group tutoring here in Portland though - one of our friends has a Masters in TEFL and works at a school downtown. We're both very excited about starting our teaching careers though! Especially in such an exciting place.
Thanks for the good wishes everyone! |

| There are no posts on this thread from people who have done a course at ITI in recent years. |

Well, Eleanor and I will be sure to let everyone know what we think of our ITI CELTA course - then everyone on this forum can have super-up-to-date information.

| I didn't do a CELTA at ITI but I did know and work with a lot of the CELTA/DELTA trainers when I was in Istanbul (6 years, up until last autumn). As well, I was working as an ADoS with several newly certified CELTA trainees who seemed quite happy with what they'd learned. It all seemed quite professional. |

Marquess - I'm in the middle of a DELTA class with them RIGHT NOW. Is that current enough?
And see my first post in this thread... or let me summarize here. ITI IS WORTH YOUR TIME AND MONEY.
Ssheesh. Can we get this thread locked? The OP's already stated that he's made his decision. |

Don't put yourself down. I am sure your Canadian CELTA equivalent is as good as anything ITI sells. |

| I think that Marquess' habit of misquoting other contributors' words says all that is needed about the quality of his line of argument. |

| I haven't misquoted anyone. Yaramaz does not have a CELTA-fact. She did a certiflcate at a Canadian university. It is neither a CELTA nor a Trinity College certificate. She has no need to feel that her certificate is of less worth because it is "validated" by her Canadian university. In fact the British Council accepted her Canadian certificate and she is now a qualified IELTS examiner. Normally they insist on the CELTA or Trinity cert as the absolute bare minimum before allowing TEFLers to train to be IELTS examiners. |

Uh...
When I said RIGHT NOW I didn't mean that I was sitting in class at that moment.

I just dug out a handout from my ITI CELTA course grammar awareness module about adverbs of frequency:
"...adverbs of frequency go before main verbs and after the verb to be"
Did you not have a grammar awareness module at Maple Leaf Uni? |
