Yes, but a residence permit still IS NOT a work permit. This still needs to be pointed out. If you have a "work permit" and it's stamped "Calismak Yasak", you are still NOT LEGAL to work.
I have to agree with Marquess, buying another 3 month tourist visa at the border IS NOT THE SAME AS RENEWING A VISA. |

Goodness me, yes, I made a mistake. I didn't mean that you can renew your visa at the border. You can't. I meant that some nationalities can't get a new visa at the border - they have to apply at the Turkish consolate at their home country. Thus, they would not be able to leave the country and get a new visa, and if they had some short business left here, their best bet might be to just apply for a 3 month residence visa, or extend their old one by 3 months.
Or imagine a South African who worked here in Turkey, but finished his contract (and thus his residence permit), leaving him with 15 days to leave the country. He's got a new job lined up in Urumqi, but that job doesn't start for 2 1/2 months. So, he's decided he'd like to stay in Turkey with his friends and travel around the east a bit... However, South Africans only get 1 month tourist visas at the border. So, he decides to get a 3 month residence permit, travel around for a while, and then head to Urumqi in a relaxed fashion 2 1/2 months later.
*If there is any wrong information above, I am bloody well sorry. I am merely trying to explain why a 3 month residence permit MAY make sense for some people. |

Please commiserate with me-the employer is now backpeddalling because they didn't realise how much hassle it was to employ a foreigner and because of the potential fine.
Why do I feel like I'm an undesirable and unwelcome????? What's wrong with wanting to teach a few spoilt brats their colours in English? Maybe I should just start a life in crime and get it over and done with! I'd certainly earn more money.
Urumqi sounds interesting. Any easier to get a work permit there? Probably not at the moment with the riots and all |

As the fickle finger of fate would have it, I am going to the emniyet tomorrow to get A 3 MONTH RESIDENCE PERMIT. How ironic is that? Why do I need it?
My residence permit expired a few days ago. However, my new university can't apply for one now because they need to take care of the work permit first. And I need to remain a resident of Turkey so that all the work can be done in the country. So, a (tourist) visa run is no good. The only reasonable option is for me to get a 3 month residence permit, wait for the work permit, then have my university apply for a 1 year residence permit tied to my work permit.
Does that sound like a good enough reason to get a 3 month residence permit Marquess? |

Fickle finger of fate indeed. Good luck at the emniyet.
Sadly, though, I don't think Marquess is with us anymore, sniff sniff. Has been very silent for the last three or four days. Perhaps he is busy or has crawled back under a rock. Perhaps even he has indeed been banned, as some other posters intimated he would. Is there any way of knowing if someone has been booted off the forum? |
